better combat
better RPG mechanics
better writing
a fuckload more content
better graphics - for all the effort Obsidian put into hand-drawn maps, larian's 3d modelling is more beautiful and runs extremely well

In Pillars can I be a true paladin type- that hands out righteous judgment to all. Or do I have to put up with everyone's queer curious interests or pseudo whedon-esque diaogue.

Dialogue and NPC interaction in Divinity is seriously cringe, but its gameplay is really good
Pillars doesn't have any interesting NPCs, but party banter is well-written, but its gameplay is hardly an improvement over IE games

66 yuropoors for the base game + expansions. The ultimate edition includes some wacky royal edition that has bunch of digital shit in it. Waste of money.

Anyways I'd wait for the next sale. The game is not that mind blowing that you have to play it right now. Might as well replay that Baldur's Gate 1+2 for the 23rd time while waiting for a steam sale.
