I was complete ass at it and first and then it just clicked. Went from the hardest part of the game to the easiest one in a flash.
I think its the transition that got me, I just wasn't used to switching between off and on beat, especially not so often.
Once you get a feel for it though its really fun. Lockstep 2 even more so.

The problem with lockstep I think is that people dont know you're supposed to double tap WITH the cues. People think theyre just signals to switch so they try switching on their own and then not only do they miss the taps on the cues, but unless they're a God they also can't switch to the other beat.

I had trouble with it too until I read what you're supposed to do somewhere, after that it became my favorite though. Keeping the timing on it to make it perfect is hard as fuck though only managed once or twice in the dozens of times I've played through, and getting a 100 must be impossible.

A lot of challenge in DS game comes from that an event of NOT touching the screen is made into an action by itself which is the opposite of in regular games.

To wrap your head around it: imagine that stylus is kinda "glued" to touch screen and you need to "unglue" it -- then your brain will conceive removing the stylus of a bottom screen as a separate action by itself.
