When are we getting a Rune Factory Switch?

I've been thinking of playing 1-3, I've only ever played 4. Are they worth it?

3 is really good. 2 and 1 may be a bit hard to get into since you are used to the newest game, but they are good too.
There is also Tides of Destiny and Frontier on consoles. ToD is mostly an action RPG with waifu simulation, farming is mostly automatic since it is done by captured monsters.

I loved 3, played it over a hundred hours, married everyone, etc. Then I went back to 1 and couldn't get into it. 2 with the kid thing made me drop it too. I never tried the wii games
Will I enjoy 4?

Unlikely. Marvelous seems to be struggling to make Story of Seasons work, and they probably aren't going to have that team work on Rune Factory at the same time.

Rune Factory was primarily localized by XSeed.

The company that made Rune Factory were bought by Marvelous, the company who made the original Harvest Moon. The devs were brought in-house, and considering how the Story of Season games have turned out, they're probably working on those now. It's hard to say if they'll be doing any Rune Factory work, though.

Rune Factory 3: Yes. I've heard the two are comparable, and RF3 is definitely worth playing.

Rune Factory 1: Maybe. RF1 was very much an experimental game, and so you should be expecting something very old-school Harvest Moon but with using farm implements to kill monsters in dungeons. Dungeons where time does not progress in the day. It's fairly strange and rather easy to break the game as a result. It also plays rather awkward.

Rune Factory 2: This one was highly experimental. I actually didn't get very far, mainly because I needed to romance a waifu and pop out a kid before I could start the farming and dungeon exploring.

I also liked Rune Factory Frontier. Looks great, has the whole cast of RF1 along with a bunch of new characters. And it is a lot of fun to just run around in. Fuck the Runeys.

Might be an unpopular opinion but I think the waifus in 4 were worse than 3. I didn't really like any of them, not sure why.

Marvelous develops the game.
XSeed (the NA branch of Marvelous) localizes it.

Natsume used to localize Harvest Moon, but Marvelous/Natsume broke up and now XSeed localizes the game series, which is now known as Story of Seasons. SoS isn't "not-Harvest Moon", it actually is Harvest Moon, because it is the same developers.

The two most recent Harvest Moon titles, the Minecraft farming game and the upcoming mobile title, are the actual not-Harvest Moon games developed by random companies, which Natsume slapped the name Harvest Moon on to confuse people into getting sales.

I think that the majority of the original Harvest Moon team have left a lot time ago, between the various corporate changes and acquisitions, and so you could argue that it hasn't been Harvest Moon for a lot time before the whole Natsume/Xseed/Story of Season thing.

Literally the same developers, which should be the biggest factor. Although Marvelous calling the shots rather than the old company might mean they'd fuck something up, it's true.

You want a new Rune Factory.
Any game named Rune Factory developed after today will be nothing you want.
What you want is whatever the fuck Marvelous calls their version of Rune Factory.
Just like how you don't want a new Harvest Moon because Story of Seasons is the true Harvest moon now.

This wasn't some random company putting out games named Rune Factory. Marvelous contracted the company to produce the Rune Factory games. Marvelous always owned the rights to Rune Factory. And Marvelous now employs the developers who worked on and created the Rune Factory games.

This is about as close as you can get to still having the original Rune Factory studio open and operating. If they do create a new Rune Factory game, then nobody is going to consider it anything other than Rune Factory unless they screw it up bad, somehow.

When do we get PC port?

Reminder that RF4 was the best selling game in the series. Plans for a new game are most likely in the works, but we won't hear anything until next year at the lastest. They already confirmed a new Story of Seasons for the Switch.

I am not sure if I can get into tides - the monster farming is a great touch, but there are things like harvesting and planting that is somewhat annoying. Would restart it again though. It was fun.

How's Story of Seasons? I have yet to play it and RF4.

The first game has some real issues, but isn't terrible.
The next game, Trio of Towns, is an improvement in almost every way and worth playing if you enjoy HM. It's a little slow in the beginning, but picks up by the middle of the first month.

Unless you're interested in one of the candidates from the first SoS there really isn't a reason why you should play that one over Trio of Towns.
