I can't decide between 4k, 144hz, or both. I don't want any of them if it means I can't get not a single dropped frame with absolutely everything at max.

I especially don't want either thing to break how well things like older games and emulators run.

1440p and 4k are actually better for retro games because 240p fits cleanly into 1440p or 2160p without needing to be stretched. 1080p is garbage because it breaks backwards compatibility with most older resolutions. Old PC games which support widescreen should work fine, if they don't then you'll need to select 1600x1200 and just force a 4:3 aspect ratio. I have a 1080, it's fine for 1440p/60 and can run some modern games at 1440p120fps, but not all. You need a 1080Ti to consistantly hit 144fps or 4k at max settings, and even then occasionally you'll need to turn stuff down.

TV's have a shit ton of post processing effects on by default, you have to turn on "gaming mode" on most LCD's. Monitors are either built for work, gaming or color accuracy, so neither have as many gimmicks as TV's do.

It's my slow motion camera on my phone at .5x so the 120fps is displaying as 60, 60 as 30 and 30 as 15. It doesn't look perfect but it's the best way to capture 120fps footage that I've found.
