Hello. As you may know, AMD recently announced RX Vega 64 and RX Vega 56. However, there are three more cards to be announced using the Vega 10 architecture. RX Vega 49 will be announced in Q4 2017 and released near the end of Q1 2018. RX Vega 49 is 9.4916 (rounded to 9.5) teraflops will have 2963 cores with a base clock of about 1000MHz and a boost of about 1400MHz. It has 6GB of HBM2 at 390 GB/s. It has a total TDP of 190W powered by two 6 pins. It will have performance somewhere in between the GTX 1060 and 1070, and it will be a very competitive price of $299 to $349.

Now, RX Vega 72 is a GPU that is taking a lot of time to make so I don't have much word about it. Although it will be announced alongside Vega 49, don't expect any concrete specs as it is taking AMD a lot of effort to especially drive the costs down. Their goal is to release it a week before Easter 2018. The card is targeting a performance of the 1080 Ti and to have the TDP less than 290W. The target MSRP is $649, but things don't seem to be going too well to get there. Likely, the card will be $699, the same price as a 1080 Ti.

This is a weird one. RX Vega 64X is essentially a power-optimized, slightly beefier RX Vega 64, but not anywhere near as powerful as the Vega 72. The announce and release of this card is quite far away. AMD's AIB partners were told about this merely a few days ago. It actually started development at the beginning of July. AMD hopes to price this card no more than $489 and discontinue the RX Vega 64. There have been no talks of any other "X" cards for Vega 10 as of July 31st, 2017. In my opinion, this is a bad move by AMD.

AMD took too long to make Vega, though. Nvidia will release Volta and will absolutely crush Vega in perf/watt, price/perf, TDP, etc.

And on a final note, the GTX 1180, 1170, and 1160 will be fully revealed in mid-September ;)
>>
>>385780451
So with these specs, just like the 4xx and 5xx series it won't be worth upgrading if you're still using a 390.

So when will AMD learn to not do incremental bullshit.
>>
FUCK EVERYTHING ELSE READ THE LAST SENTENCE
>>
>>385780451

Why would nvidia need to release those cards when the 1080 and 1070 beat vega

I am the person who originally created this thread, so allow me to clear something up that I had missed:

Wait for Volta. Volta will be out by the time all of these are released. The 1160 will be $269 and will perform way better than the 64X.
>>
>>385781874
11X0 is Volta?
>>
Yes, 11X0 is Volta. Not 20X0
>>
>>385781015
but they dont?

vega 64 > 1080
vega 56 > 1070

Not to mention finewine/actual next gen api support. You can bet maxwell/pascal architecture will age like milk (similar to keplar) when volta is released with full dx12 support
>>
September seems to close for Volta when every other source says h1 2018. Not like Nvidia is in any rush with the 1080ti dominating the high end market and a $50 price cut on the 1070/1080 will make Vega pointless.

and I doubt there will be six vega cards and then the polaris cards, its too many cards in the lineup and will be a waste to have a card at every $50 jump up.
>>
Volta would be the obvious choice for consumers. Volta has much better pricing, much better performance, lower wattage, etc. It would effectively kill AMD's GPU division as AMD would be forced to sell their cards way under the price it takes to manufacture them.
>>
>bought Ryzen
>will probably buy Volta
Best of both worlds.
>>
>>385782726
>much better pricing

this is nvidia were talking about, they had no competition with pascal and pushed up each segment by $100.

Prepare for the next gen founders edition 1170 to be $600.

b-b-bbut its a bargain because its 1080ti performance! I can see it already
>>
It's what I was told. I agree, it seems close, but I don't think my source would lie. If it's false, most likely they had a typo and meant 2018, but I'm not completely sure.
>>
>>385783012
>If it's false, most likely they had a typo and meant 2018
That wouldn't make sense either, most common Volta release date was Q1 2018, not Q3 2018. I've seen a few 2017 rumours, though.
>>
>>385782971
Vega is a threat to Nvidia. They have no reason to drive prices up for Volta.
>>
>>385783142
Then I'm not sure. Let me re-verify with him. It'll take about a day.
>>
>>385783219
How so? A small price cut on the 1070/1080 will bring it under Vegas price/performance, and Nvidias cards are much cheaper to produce than Vega.

They make mad profit margins and can afford to cut the price, also a year old tech. Vega cant be dropped anymore because AMD fell for the HBM meme.
>>
>>385783376
Remember the rumors about a Pascal refresh? That is Volta. A Pascal Refresh but way cheaper
>>
>>385783585
IIRC Pascal refresh and Volta are two different things, possibly we'll get nu-Pascal in September and actual new architecture Volta in 2018
>>
>>385783585
But Pascal is already a refreshed/shrinked maxwell.

Fuck this shit, ill just buy a ps4 at this rate. GPU market is fucked

>>
>>385784463
Nvidia will not give unjustified high prices on Volta. Like I said, the 1160 will be $279. As for the 1180, I've gotten multiple answers from different sources but the average of all of them was like $574.13, if that helps?
>>
>>385784327
Sorry, it's the truth.

(Ryzen is the superior CPU platform though)
>>
I know alot of you sick to death of hearing AMD will get better over time bah bah Fine Wine Bah Bah
I understand this RX Vega is very late.

But i'll be buying RX VEGA. I stand by AMD approach to PC gaming and Open Source and for that reason I will take the gamble that RX Vega will get better the more gaming start using the GPU. If I can get the same amount of time I have had with my R9 290 Gaming at 1440p I be very happy. Still to this day I shocked how well it performs in recent titles

Couple things I have been catching up on is RX VEGA feature set will benefit most from devs wanting to use the GPU more effectively - Rapid Packed Math FP16 and HBCC could very well be RX Vega hidden performance.

Is there a prospective third party company that can offset this fucking oligopoly?
>>
>>385785041
until nvidia pulls founders edition shenanigans again and the FE price becomes the minimum RRP
>>
>>385785989
Founder's Edition cards will be priced the same because of how well they were able to compete in Pascal
>>
>>385785905
>Far Cry 5 is gonna be the best Far Cry yet
DROPPED
>>
>>385786172
They shouldnt though, they should be less like reference cards always were. Its just a way for nvidia to make another quick buck.

What happened with Pascal is we had two price points, lets say the 1070.

1070 FE $449 RRP
1070 AIB $379 RRP

Literally no AIB cards were cheaper than the FE except those bargain bin models, so $449 became the RRP for all instead of $379
>>
>>385786502
AIB = add in board = pretty much any video card, including reference ones
>>
>>385786210
Still if this works we'll be getting near double the performance out of the cards, it will be insane.

Maybe OP is right and Nvidia is quickly launching Volta in September with full DX12 support and this double floating point stuff before people see how good it is.
>>
>>385786502
Trust me. I have many sources that I have asked many questions to and I have gotten the same answer from most sources about the FE Volta cards' pricing. I'm pretty confident in what I said.
>>
>>385786674
I feel like it will only work in specific instances, I mean it's still good but probably isn't literally "twice the performance".
>>
>>385786674
No, Nvidia is NOT launching Volta in September. It is only getting revealed, nothing more, nothing less.
>>
>>385786618
AIB = add in board partner = companies that make the card (e.g. Sapphire, Asus, MSI, Gigabyte). People usually use this in relation to AIB cooler which is the custom cooler that those companies slap on the card.

Reference (more recently called founders edition) = Reference card by manufacturer. This is the card being shown by AMD/Nvidia. Also can be used to refer to "reference PCB" which means the layout of the board is what AMD/Nvidia created and handed down to AIB partners who then slap their cooling solutions to this board design.
>>
What does this mean for mining???
>>
>>385786979
nothing
>>
>>385786979
Supposedly Vega should be very good for that!
>>
>>385787060
Any Vega 10 card is actually worse than a 1070 for mining. Not a good idea to mine with Vega at all.
>>
>>385787214
>Any Vega 10 card is actually worse than a 1070 for mining
Wait, how so? I thought Nvidias were bad for mining and Radeons were good.
>>
>>385787214
How comes, even the $399 Vega 56 will outperform the 1070 by quite a bit.

Is it due to the power consumption?
>>
>>385787245
Polaris is good for mining. Vega is not, especially with its TDP.
>>
>>385787284
Power consumption isn't the only reason why. The Vega 56 will outperform the 1070 in gaming, but not in mining-- there's a difference there. Like how a 1080 beats an RX 580 in gaming but an RX 580 is better for mining.
>>
>>385787470
So you're saying a Vega card will be slower than the 580 in mining?? I cant really believe that, less efficient maybe but not slower.

Last time I did mining was years ago, but then it was just basically beefier card = more hash or something. Remember getting 700 kh/s(?) on a 7950
>>
>>385787790
I have held every Vega card in my hands and tested them in every way I could think of. Any Vega 10 GPU is worse at mining than a 580.

And by slower, yes, I did mean less efficient.
>>
>>385788006
at least it wont be bought out everywhere by miners I guess

I'm planning to replace 2500k/980 with 1700/Vega 56 next month

Going to make the 2500k into a keychain, its the longest lasting CPU I've used
>>
2600K-390X here waiting till Navi Zen 2 or 3
>>
>>385789530
If I bought the 2600k over 2500k I would wait another 2 years.

At the time everyone said hyperthreading was useless, look how that turned out. Now games like bf1 max out my 2500k 100% all cores while the 980 usage fluctuates.

Still playable 60fps, but I'm on 120hz feels like a waste.
>>
2500k/970 here ... I'm waiting for benchmarks
>>
>>385789794
Luckily for me I got the 2600K for $199 at a microcenter sale back in 2011. I might just wait that extra year though, there's too much up in the air right now (especially with Vega's subpar expecations). Even USB 3.2 got ratified, gonna wait for shit to get standardized
>>
>>385785041

Reminder that Vega cards have buttcoin mining features, they'll be sold out within the first three days of release.
AMD cards will be completely out of stock everywhere, nvidia will have no competition and thus no reason to lower the prices of their cards. If anything, they'll continue to increase.

Vega 56 wont be 30% slower than Vega 64/1080, which is what the 1070 is. Going by the specs it'll be 10-15% slower than the 64.

That would also put it on par with the Fury and make it a pointless card. There is a massive gap between the 1070 and 1080, AMD are going to capitalise on that.
