But It fixed many of the long standing problems with that had been infecting the series over time.
Enemies and environments can actually kill you again instead of the direction the series was headed with hulking shitwrecker looking enemies doing a piddling 1/4 heart damage
The intro is relatively short and sweet and there's little handholding overall instead of a plodding intro and constant interruptions and reminders of where to go or what to do throughout the whole game.
Mid tier rewards are the most diverse and have the most importance to the player as they've had since the Oracle games (although I will admit that the rings had a better selection of effects than the weapons and armors of BotW)
But it's still better than every treasure being a piece of heart, or more rupees which you're already maxed out on.

Not only that, but Zelda's take on open worlds does things that people have been asking for in other open world titles for a long time, like not using obtrusive quest markers or having wildlife that actually behaves like wildlife and interacts with enemies.

Really the only thing it did "wrong" was break the dungeon content into 100 individual rooms with identical aesthetics (and 20 fucking combat shrines) instead of having more large sprawling dungeons with unique looks and set pieces.

It's pretty incredible that you just randomly fight this one particular dragon and it's like the best thing ever that uses several of your skills, and lets you have actual fun with unlimited paragliding, and that whole fight is like 100x better than ganon's second phase which is just, like some kind of joke like they forgot in testing to finish his second phase so it just does nothing and then dies from a handful of arrows.

Disappointing, all that for a shrine and a weapon that's gonna break anyways.

I also think that the dragon fight shows wasted potential with the blight goop as well. It was used as obstacles in a few areas in the overworld, but none of the other baddies were all fucked up and corrupted by it. Awfully wrong. They serve the exact opposite purpose of Ubisoft Towers. They don't fill up your map with icons to remove, they encourage you to explore and find things to put icons on your map. It's not a shopping list dispenser.
