It's really distracting as fuck in some games. Not all devs bothered to create work-arounds to mitigate the issue on close-up stuff (hi Syphon Filter 1) with LoD tessellating of surfaces.

But same can be said about N64 and the smear filter that is its hardware AA solution.

It's a cool high-level emulation perk none the less since some stylized games will definitely benefit from it.

Do not listen thia retard. Do not turn off the jitter or warping, games were designed and styled with those limits in mind, they hide flaws and they add to the ambience. Takes those out and all PS1 games look like cheap bargain bins running on the quake 1 engine. Do not take out jitter/warping.

I played MGS on an ps3 with a 1080p monitor. It looks great and the graphics hold up way better than i expected. Ps1 games took into account the jitter and made it part of the art style. Cant say the same for N64 games, those do look like shit on 1080p.

If there's one thing I would always give PS games, it's their level of texture details they use. They really help. The N64 depended too much on default colors with baked half ass lighting. Good for cartoony games like most of the nintendo library, but made everything ugly. Ocarina and MM are clearly exceptions.

Ass by what standards? The system was incapable of producing 3d graphics as clean or smooth as the n64, thats how it was, that's how the games were made and designed for. They look fucking awesome with their chunky pixels and warbling polygons. If you don't like those graphics, you don't like the ps1. So don't play it. If the ps1 looked like ass, then you shouldn't be playing any systems before it either because you can't even fix those graphics with resolution and "rippling" hacks.

And you just answered your own question there. PS1 games looked hideous even by the standards of the time. Early 3D in general is ugly as sin and I hate it, but I still play some classic 3D games because they're fun.
