maybe, but i honestly think it's just luck. on my alt account i did the placement matches when there was a free weekend a few weeks ago and got diamond 1, and managed to stay there for like 50 more matches. i think a big chunk of the playerbase is concentrated in the gold-platinum ranks so it's hard to rank up once you're stuck in that limbo.
