It's cool, but this same thread was made yesterday so whatever ruckus you were hoping to cause will not happen so stop
>>
takes too long even without setbacks
>>
>>385771038
It's fun, but good god it's like I'm gambling instead of playing a game, even tabletop games with literal dice feel less RNG dependent than this.
>>
If you're an edgy tween this is the game for you as you delve only surface deep into Lovecraftian lore and believe yourself to be superior to everyone else because they don't actively follow such an autistic community. You also think its imagery is disturbing because it adds eyes, rotting skin and sharp teeth everywhere on their mobs.
>>
Its a bit of a time sink with pretty low requirements.

I play it in class or at work. The game is pretty difficult and I like the "all or nothing" style.

Dam/crit buff alchemist and gunslinger breaks it though.
>>
HOW QUICKLY THE TIDE TURNS

Kinda neat, but extremely repetitive, little variety in enemies, heroes and dugneons make it very quick to get bored of.

This

Its a slot machine with grinding
>>
its good but it feels more punishing than rewarding. like, finishing a mission in Xcom feels pretty good and moves the game along, oftentimes DD feels like you threw away resources for fucking nothing.
>>
I played it alot at first but it gets a little repetitive after awhile

Ill play it every now and then for an hour at a time. It's fun but a bit overrated
>>
>>385771038
It's aight but it doesn't go into Lovecraft atmosphere enough.
>>
>>385771038
Had 4 party wipes on the fucking tutorial.
No control over the game at that point and subhuman democrat voters are going to say "GET GUD FAGOUT!"
>>
>>385771038
I have a love-hate relationship with this game.

38 hours according to Steam, but on paper it's the opposite of why I play games. No fun ever.
I have no problem banging my head against hard games, but DD was just designed to fuck you no matter what.
>>
>>385774741
Aside from horrors made from flesh and goo, Lovecraft is also about causing your own ruin.

Mountains of Madness is a great example and Kolchak the Night Stalker did this really well. You have a glimpse of the paranormal and then investigate it and hound it, until it causes your own undoing.

In that way, Darkest Dungeon is extremely Lovecraftian, both for the party and The Ancestor. The Ancestor finds these ancient documents and starts digging, only to unleash a rift between realities. Same with how The Ancestor created Swine God, Necromancer, and tried to silence the prophet. Everything pointed to The Ancestor destroying the world if he continued and yet he pushed on out of boredom and intrigue.

Explain, the tutorial is easy as shit. Like literally how?
>>
>>385775154
IMO the problem is asymetric play. The enemy doesn't take stress damage, yet half their units are stress casters. Most of the classes are pretty weak for the role they need to fill, especially abomination, jester, graverobber, arbalest, crusader, and more. The classes are designed to have extreme limitations, but the enemy has no such penalty. What's that? Your crusader can only smite the first two ranks? That's cool. My skeleton warrior can hit your rank 4 while he's standing at rank 4. The same for basically every unit in the game. You're boxxed in, the mobs are not.
>>
>>385771038
The balance between having fun and stressing on the game is out of whack.
>>
>>385775503
>Abomination
>Jester

>weak
shitter
>>
>>385775368
>First Brigand slice and dice both guys
>Bleed
>First Brigand dodges open vein and resists stun
>Defeat brigand
>Surprised on second battle
>Fat Brigand uses Knockback on Highwayman
>CRIT 24 HP
>Highwayman only has 20 HP after last battle
>Highwayman on death's door
>Brigand shooter blanket fires
>Fat Brigand uses rain of whips.
>Highwayman deathblow
>Crusader killed because he can't kill both.

Same goddamn thing happened 3 more times after that.
>>
it's alright I guess, kinda got bored with it eventually though. I get the stress system and etc are supposed to add a layer of difficulty onto the game but managing all of the different variables constantly became a pain in the ass.
>>
>>385775578
I noticed I, the player, got more stressed with headphones, but completely bored without sound.

Animations should be skippable.
>>
>>385775735
Do you have literally the worst luck in existance? Like do 1 in a million chance bad things happen to you on a daily basis, because I've never been fucked by the opening segment once.
>>
>>385775503
>What's that? Your crusader can only smite the first two ranks?
That's why you make a team comp to compliment that. Put a Crusader in the back to use Holy Lance, or use a Bounty Hunter/Occultist to bring the enemy back ranks forward.
>>
I want to get it but I missed the steam sale, is it cheaper on g2a or somewhere similar?
>>
>>385775878
Actually, no bullshit, it's like I have the jinxed trait from Fallout.

Either a bunch of really good things happen to me or absolute terrible luck.
>>
I love it and I hate it
>>
>>385775503
Mobs are pretty much just whittle you down in the game honestly, especially in the beginning, sure they can attack anywhere, but they do like 3-6 health generally vs your 30+ on tough guys, which you can easily heal, meanwhile they have at most 20 health and you can easily deal twice the damage they put out on a bad roll. Sure they ignore rank half the time, but they also do piss all damage, where you smash the ranks instantly.
>>
>>385775951
But the point is that your units can only use their skills in certain positions and even then only on certain targets. They can melee any of your ranks in any position.
>>
>>385775992
That makes sense, because the opening segment has at least a tenth of the enemies you'd encounter outside of the tutorial. And I'm pretty sure they're slightly weaker.
>>
>>385776142
That's objectively false, enemies positioning is dependent as well. Try pulling the wine-throwing skeleton to pos 1 sometime, and watch as he stabs you with a tiny knife. It's all dependent, you could probably even find this stuff online
>>
>>385776142
Thats not even true, for example the Sunken Crew boss fight becomes piss easy as soon as you move him up a rank because he cant use any of his actually good abilities and is forced to keep using the same shitty ability that tries to put more adds but cant because there is already one down, which can't do anything because it doesn't have abilites for that rank. And the Brigand Shooter class, when at the brought to the first rank, can't use his good ability blanket fire, and can only resort to hurried shot.
>>
>>385776736
>>385776536
I feel like he had trouble with the skeleton's grave slash constantly hitting him from every rank while his crusader got pushed to the back.
>>
>>385776142
>>385776536
Adding to that, take the generic pelagic swordwielding fishman. In the 1st two ranks, he hits only the 1st two. In the 3rd and 4th, he can only hit your 3rd and 4th. Capiche?
>>
>>385776867
As dumb as it sounds, I advise people to watch a stream of this game by someone who's serious, it really helped me learn a lot, and spurred me on. Now I run most dungeons in the dark and come out with little stress
>>
I don't get the difficulty, it's babby-tier easy until you get to the level 5/6 dungeons that can completely fuck you over almost immediately if you get bad RNG
>>
>>385776536
>>385776536
Yeah you're right.
The Bone Soldier can attack in every position, with a reduction in damage and accuracy at rank 4

However, just as an example, Boob cultist can use Stressful Incantation for 15 stress in every position in any of your ranks. That's what's bullshit. None of your characters have a skill comparable to that.
>>
>>385777014
I tried watching Filthy's eldritch no light.

I did exactly what he did for the first 2 missions and got totally wrecked.
>>
>>385777096
To compensate, a lot of melee classes have moves that push them up ranks, and you also do way more damage than they generally do to you. You get critted for 11, a crusader can crit for 20+ in first level dungeons.
>>
>>385777186
That's the streamer in question kek I watched for a while to pick up all the little things before I got back around to playing
>>
>>385777186
Sadly, the game is still essentially a gambling game, albeit one where you can minimize the risks somewhat.
>>
>tfw plague doctor will never sit on your face
>>
>>385777096
>None of your characters have a skill comparable to that.
Crusader's stress heal can be used from any rank on any rank. Same with Occultist's heal. Hound Master's primary attack only has the limitation that it can't be used in position 1. Should I go on?

>>385777429
Crusader stress heal? That's what you come out with?

Stress heal +6 at level 1 when boob cultist causes +15 stress? So if I just let my unholy damage dealer heal for 3 turns, I'll recover a single stressful incarnation.

Even at level 5, Crusader only heals 10 stress.
>>
>>385777671
You prioritize stunning/outright killing stress dealers before they get those spells off. That's just the way the game goes. There are tons of other things worthy of complaining about but that part is just pure strategy.
>>
>>385777671
That's why you nuke the stress healer and keep the two weaklings in front stunned for as long as possible while recovering.
>>
>>385777186
I like that
There is no magic solutions to clear a level and sometime you just have to give up and give it another try
>>
>>385778068
I think there's a right way and a wrong way to do it though.

FTL, for example, would pit you against insane odds. Sometimes it was impossible for you to damage the other ship due to shields or whatever. All you could do was wait for FTL to charge. You always had some kind of option.

Darkest Dungeon will screw you over at random (usually with crits and DoT) and offer no way out. You can retreat, but if your objective is behind the next room, you still have to fight it. You can abandon the quest, but you take stress from defeat.
>>
>>385778428
It's so easy to get bricked early on with a shitload of stressed out dudes and no money
Once I got past that hurdle, a bit later I started running into Champion dungeons and I'm not sure when I'm going to pick up the game again
>>
Good game but the grind is too real. Played it for about 30 hours and gave up after doing essentially the exact same thing with little variation over and over. Felt like I saw enough and didn't want to put in the effort to get to the "end game" content.

Love it, but I do get salty after playing for a while, but that's just RNG

The DLC is also amazing
I don't get why people hate the Crimson Curse so much. It's very hard to have a character die to it, and if they're craving, the Bloodlust buff is insane during missions. My bounty hunters have never destroyed so much ass, and they are not unfamiliar with ass destruction as you all might know

It's a cool game, would have gotten it portable though, if I didn't have to buy it again
>>
>>385771038
I personally loved it, beat the normal campaign in about 43 hours.

I just started a run of the Pitch Black Dungeon mod with some mods that bring in new classes and holy shit am I getting my ass kicked. I unironically have zero gold after trying to do a simple cove exploration quest that had to be abandoned after the first battle ended with a dead jester and 3 afflicted heroes at half health.

Pro tip: always buy more provisions than you think you'll need on a quest. It's better to be over-prepared than under-prepared, and losing 100 gold because you bought an extra shovel is a hell of a lot better than having everyone in the party gain 25 stress and lose most of your torchlight having to manually clear out rubble.
>>
>>385771458
This, sign up for a short level (some shit like explore 90% of rooms) and ends up taking half an hour, especially because half the fucking time I miss my hits
>>385771471
Also this, I blame the fact that characters don't get armor when you upgrade their armor, they get dodge chance and HP. Like who thought that was a cool idea, "let's make it slightly less of a dice roll the better a character is"
>>385772708
I agree with this, XCOM feels like if I completed a level with zero casualties, I played well. DD feels like if I completed a level with zero casualties, I got lucky and there was little to no skill involved
>>
>>385775734
How is abom any good? Every time I used it I felt punished for using his beast form, especially on shitty enemies. His chain whip stun shit is good, but everything else seeemed shitty, and he didn't do enough single target damage to take him in against a boss. I'd rather just run a bounty hunter with mark+headhunt
and Jester seemed real fucking bad except to reduce stress levels on one guy at a time
>>
>>385772708
>finishing a mission in Xcom feels pretty good and moves the game along

That's another weird thing about DD. Killing all the bosses doesn't move the plot or directly help you with the finalle. As a result, there's really no incentive to kill all those bosses once your characters hit level 6.

Champions dungeons can really unfair
I just did one and after the first fight all my heros got new deseases(FUCK THE WEALD) and 2 where in agony , The rest of the dungeons was ok but hell getting them heal cost me like 4000
>>

>>
>>385778857
only casuals find Xcom EU 1 and 2 hard
>>
>>385779357
I didn't say it was hard, I said it feels rewarding to complete a mission because there's always a way to minimize the RNG or have better positioning
>>
>>385778721
its mostly just annoying and forces you to waste an early district just to maintain it which is really fucking stupid given how expensive they are and how rare blueprints are early game
but the part i least like about it is that its like a pure debuff when it seems like it was set up mechanically to be a risk/reward type deal, like you can let your characters be bloodstarved for bonus buffs at the cost of them acting out of turn/skipping/moving/eventually dying/etc
like they even have trinkets designed to work around this idea but for some reason the curse is just a straight minor debuff to all of their stats and otherwise effectively just functions as -1 or more inventory slot since you have to bring blood basically always until you clear the cure quests for a brief reprieve, it just seems like a pointless mechanic that does nothing but put a vague secondary timer on your mission clears thats entirely possible to mitigate and ignore completely with proper setup, like why does it even exist at that point
