It still blows my mind to this day how No Mans Sky even got this popular. How did people seriously think that infinite procedurally generated planets with never ending and unique content can be possible with modern technology? Did no one take a minute and think to themselves that infinite planets with random grass color and frankensteined animals would eventually run dry? Video games are an industry where you literally don't have to show any results to get money. All you have to do is promise out the ass, and show some mockups or early footage that won't be reasonable to have in a playable state, and it will rain preorder money.

The only other place on the planet this works as well is for government contractors.

Because the vast majority of people are stupid. You can lie at their faces for months until the game releases, they will eat it up, get you millions if it was marketed well and then you just have to power through the hate to the bank.

Now the trick is being able to do it time after time. That's the hard part. For example after the shitshow of Nu male's sky I bet you won't see Sean get another hit any time soon.
