The "above average" MGSV cost Konami 80m$ before its budget was cut/development stopped.

The Witcher 3, a bigger and more focused game, cost only 46m$.

Kojima was a burden on Konami's finances - he was always delaying his games and used a lot of money, showing no real results - other studios could deliver games with the same quality as his games at a way lower budget. Their gaming division was losing a lot of money and had to be downsized because of Kojima's incompetence, not because Pachinko was more lucrative.

Fortunately for him, he created a image of "videogame god" around himself and conned Sony into giving him money for whatever the fuck Death Stranding is, and no one can criticize him nowadays because he's "perfect" and a victim of the "big bad Konami boogeyman CEO's", and "#FucKonami" for doing a sensible business decision.

It's not their fault Kojima has no clue how to spend a budget or get things done in a reasonable amount of time. There's alot of shitty things Konami has done recently that deserve hate but telling Kojima "no, fuck off anf finish the game and release it already" after he asked for budget extension #10 and release date delay # 6 is not one of them. Stock holders don't care if "Kojima just needs another 6 months and 3 million dollars to make it absolutely perfect". The state of MGSV is all on Kojima. He should have nailed down a coherent and complete story experience instead of trying to add every new feature he could think of or see in whatever game he was playing at the time, or paying composers to make dozens of songs that didn't even end up being used in the game.

- Expanded mission variety more than eliminate or rescue targets, more missions ending on ground to flow into next
- More maps, including higher populated areas like small towns(the village area where you fight Eli but bigger)
- Revisit Camp Omega' bigger map that explores the offbase areas past the entrances. More missions/real side ops there
- Missions with important characters/plots would be main missions, objective based generic missions/merc work would be side ops
- Capturing important enemies(commanders, targets, main characters like Huey and Quiet) would add intel files about them and their current status; killing them will mark them as KIA
- Beating first chapter would unlock extra difficulties for all chapter 1 missions; hard mode, euro-extreme, Subsistence (chapter 2 missions would no longer be these)
- Uniting under a banner, multiple players on same mother base
- Use AI pod for a metal gear(sahelanthropus, battle gear, or another Huey invention)
- Helicopter rides start closer to landing point
- Can skip helicopter like a cutscene
- Snake talks back to Ocelot/Miller as they talk about the mission instead of just listening(optional button press like first mission)
- Snake would have conversations with character he speaks through in game(big example; jeep ride)

Motherbase
- Motherbase quarters for Kaz, Ocelot, Codetalker, Huey, Eli etc where you can go and talk/question/interrogate them at various points in the game
- Conversations would become tapes which you can listen to later
- Story flowchart in either a "war room" or in Ocelots quarters that shows connecting missions and how it relates to Cipher
- Ocelot would act as mission coordinator(intel), Miller would act more as XO for Diamond Dogs(command)
- Snake responds during conversations like he does in first couple of tapes, reflect on things in his own quarters
- Idea: Ishmael could be on base and you'd be talking to him(bandaged or appearing as avatar). Possible hints he's not real by being ignored by others
- "Mini games" on motherbase(interactions)
- Saluting/poses to motherbase soldiers to increase morale
- Along with salutes, custom vocab like in Peace Walker
- Walk up to soldiers performing activities on motherbase and either interrupt them or join in
- Shooting range/CQC practice where you can select soldiers and build up their combat rating
- Similar activities on base for building all skills. Use this to build stats on even the weakest soldiers so you don't have to fire soldiers you like for their low skills
- Motherbase would have to be quicker to visit and navigate, no long helicopter ride
- FOBs customizable to picking which platform each extra platform is, guard placement(down to which guard by name you want in each location), route placement
- All guards would be on motherbase unless they are deployed, would have different actions besides walking/standing, having multiple conversations witheachother at once, playing cards, eating, playing with DD, more life
- Pick platform for motherbase through menu, including quarters
- Can fast travel on motherbase through menu
- Motherbase/FOBs can be edited from menu in helicopter(use resources to change existing ones)
- Vehicles would show up on motherbase like in trailer, along with more helicopters

- Alerts: At the end of the initial alert, instead of going back to gun, guard reaches towards walkie and yells hostile into it
- If part of it goes through, guards start to look around

Customizations
- More customization for avatar(example: all hair types available in game available for them)
- More outfits and accessories(glasses, berets, eyepatches etc) selectable for all characters including Venom and Avatar
- Realistic human flesh prosthetic arm for Venom and Avatar
- Customize each soldier through menu
- Build stats for soldiers through better menuing, level up staff
- Customizable outfits for all characters. Assign uniforms like standard, ocelot unit, and any other outfit that soldiers wear in the game to your soldiers(and wear them yourself)
- Unlock these outfits by capturing soldiers wearing them throughout the game
- Unlock iconic outfits for your character to wear(MGS1 Snake, MGS2 Snake, MGS2 Raiden, MGS4 Snake, MGS4 Big Boss, etc)

Side OPs:
- You'd deploy a soldier to do side ops with your iDroid; can happen mid-mission or from ACC
- Mid-mission side ops can be used to help Snake
- Example: Snake needs security disabled from across the map to infiltrate, but going himself would fail his current mission
- Switch to deployable soldiers and they're already on the battlefield getting ready to start the mission
- The transition could even be similar to like GTA V
- When you return to motherbase, tactics room would show how all your missions relate to your plans
- Finance building, soldier recruitment, Cipher and how each mission that does relate to them even side ops like destroy the walker gear
- Example: You could have Ocelot there talking about how we now have a lead on where the walker gear are getting manufactured from and all these points could be effected by how you play the missions.
- If you find intel or extract an officer who knows something it could expand the game, lead to more missions/side ops, lead to map markings that unlock more content

Fanservice stuff:
- Ocelot playable/Buddy with unlockable outfits/looks from other games(changable head)
- Chico concept would be used
- Subplot with Amanda around Chico(recruitable Amanda?)
- Other special recruitables(Solid Snake, Roy Cambell, Raiden, Volgin, Peace Walker Miller) that you can play as with different special effects

- Final mission would at least cameo Solid Snake coming out of the water and saying kept you waiting, mimicking Big Boss from the Ground Zeroes intro
- Final fight is either you playing as Solid vs Venom, or you fighting Solid as Venom.
- Beating that would include a cutscene of Solid being trained by Big Boss and Miller leading up to MG1's opening to close out the series with a full loop

Jeep Ride
- Immediately go into first person person view as they get into the jeep
- Skull Face's entire conversation is motion capped, with expressive movements
- Snake quips back during the conversations with comments like in the first couple of tapes, giving the conversation a James Bond talking to villain feel
- Sins of the Father is playing quietly in the background the entire ride
- At the point that it gets to the part where Skull Face pauses, camera goes back to 3rd person
- 3rd person reveals massive amounts of Tanks, Helicopters, walker gears, and soldiers to show the scope of Skullfaces army. Possibly nukes being hauled too.
- Sahelanthropus shows up near the last part of the song right before Skull Faces talks again

Hayter would have been more expensive than Kiefer actually. The money was mostly spent of r&d that amounted to nothing, probably a decent bit of it was spent on P.T. as well seeing as Konami supposedly didn't even know much about it.

Just to put things into perspective, the chick Kojima hired to make all of the series iconic music was usually commissioned for 1 or 2 songs per game. Best is yet to Come, Say Goodbye to esterday, Snake Eater, Calling to the Night, etc.. whereas for V she was commissioned for a metric fuckton of songs until Kojima had his "perfect" song. She was paid to write over 30 that weren't even used.

It's the only factual evidence we have behind the reason for the beef with Kojima/Konami. Kojima was a salaryman whose pay was more or less the same no matter what, so he didn't even give a second thought to delaying the game or using more money to complete his vision. Obviously Konami had enough of this eventually and put the game on the fast track whether Kojima liked it or not.

No it's pretty clear Kojima had much greater plans for the story. Chico for example. We know he was more than just concept art since they were already planning missions around him (Chico mission files were even datamined from the companion app). And seriously I doubt Kojima initially planned to show every single key cutscene in the trailers. And gameplay surely would have improved at least a bit. For example he had to remove battle gear from gameplay because he couldn't find a way to balance it. Given more time he might have. Filled out the empty open world in general a bit more maybe. I have no doubts it would be a better game all around and although the anticipation was literally killing me in hindsight I'd much rather of waited another year or two for the true BigBoss becomes a villain story and builds Outer Heaven we were all promised.

Not saying that the twist wasn't always planned, just that it wasn't meant to be the end of the game (or happen so soon, rather). We would either continue as Venom in act 3 and do some truly evil shit or switch to BB and do the same while actually building Outer Heaven. Then when the twist is finally revealed the evil actions have more weight to them etc...

It's useless to speculate, but we do know the game was going to be bigger in scale and story, and it was alot more than just Mission 51.

Considering how much was scrapped because it was close to done but not quite done, I'd beg to differ. Hell there was stuff shown on the E3 stage that was scrapped because it wasn't 100% ready to ship. The extra year probably would have been more for polishing up unfinished content than making all new stuff. Even though the game does technically flow as a "complete" story if you include mission 51, the pacing still tells you there was so much more that was supposed to happen.

wasn't uncommon. It doesn't matter how fucking good the game would have been, if you have retards hyping it up that much of course they're going to be disappointed. Moral of the story here is don't fall for the hype train kids. It only leads to disappointment and bitter tears.
