I miss the temperature of online forums and communities at the time. MySpace, Gaia, 4chan, newgrounds and so on all felt like unique places to be. Now every single meme and reference created on Facebook, 4chan, Tumblr, and so on leaks and mixes to create some bland homogeneous culture.

Computers were still doubling in speed every 18 months and there were some genuinely unique and interesting experiences to be had. FPS games weren't down to a formula and so there was good variety and innovation and they felt fresh. Space sims were going strong and some of the best rts and 4x games were popular then.

In summary, 2007-2011 was still a very quiet 4 years, the calm before the storm if you will, of normie internet. 2007-2009 was the glory days of Myspace for god's sake. You can look at the numbers yourself. 2007-2011 was the tutorial levels of normienet/social media. 2014-now is our fully fleshed-out hell.

Megaupload has gone, and most (non-cancerous) DDL sites. Google has taken over so much that used to be done by different parties. The decentralization of the internet is gone. And with it, our freedom.

I'm speaking only about the internet right now, but there's so much more to learn and realize just how twisted things have become, and what's more, how to fight it and turn it back in our favor.

I was young (in 2006 I was in 6th grade) and had hopes as well as dreams. Had some friends, was nerdy but was nice to everyone so nobody was mean to me. Games were better back then, the GameCube was seriously underrated. Cartoons were obviously better then as well.
