Do you need to play Default first to play Second? I never see Default in stores.

Second does a fair job of explaining the events of Default, so you won't be completely in the dark, but it's best to play the first game and get the full experience for yourself. You'll miss out on a lot of character moments by jumping into the middle of an ongoing story.

It's a pretty standard turn-based RPG, so if that's your thing you won't be disappointed. The big draw of the combat is the eponymous Brave and Default system, which lets you either take turns in advance or store turns for later use. There are a number of setups you can do to take advantage of having multiple actions in a row, and some skills change their effects based on how many Brave Points you or your opponents have. It also features a wide variety of jobs, which can either be equipped as a main job, which your current stats and set ability will be based on, or a sub-job, which simply grants you whatever abilities you've unlocked for it.

Same. Default has a slightly better first half, but then proceeds to shoot itself in the foot four times while Second just gets cooler and more interesting.

That said, I love both almost equally and I can't wait for a third one on Switch. I'm even buying Octopath Traveller (which looks cool)
and the frankly inferior Tokyo RPG Factory games to make sure Square Enix doesn't go full retard as usual and kill Bravely.

He's pretty heavily hinted at being a Third's protagonist judging by that post-credit scene. He should be, otherwise he and Edea will probably never get the happy end together they deserve more than anyone else in the cast.

Bravely Second was better in every aspect except for the last boss and the lack of Ringabel to balance how much of a group of good kids 3/4 of the cast are.

Honestly the only bad thing about Default was the stupid loop storyline.

Sorry I haven't read through the thread to avoid spoilers, but how is the game in comparison to Default? The repeating bullshit really annoyed me but otherwise I thought the first was really good gameplaywise and the characters/music was great.

Are we ever seeing more Project Octopath? I hope it's as good characters wise since that was the highlight of BD (mainly BS even though everyone shit's on the characters and interactions in that one). According to Gematsu, BD was announced in September 2011 and came out October 2012. But we also saw a lot more of BD after announce than Project Octopath, so probably a late 2018 title. Meaning Bravely Third isn't for a while unless they're doing both.
