Planetside 2 barely fits the bill and I find it boring. WW2OL is probably gonna get shat on too when it releases to steam so I don't see that having a large pop for very long.

One I own. Something with flexibility for owners to make shit happen on the fly and make custom mobs for players to fuck with and generate NPC's and quests.
I wanna administrate shit and do events for players, make storylines, and have a community ARG around it.
I think about this a lot. Too many games have hands off devs that don't really do much for players, or TO players. Having devs show up as a established characters in a pvp battle zones as an event to dish out justice and fight each other in different factions would be amazing.

PS2 should of just been Planetside 1.9 or something. Basically a remastered Planetside 1 with better models, draw distances, new continents, bigger continents, and so on.
Maybe even add bots that have braindead AI to defend bases and populate them to make things feel more alive, but that might be a bit much

I wish an MMO did classes like ET. William and Akatsuki have totally different playstyles but have the same primary class. The subclass thing is cool too. Being forced to sacrifice a combat subclass for crafting would make crafters much more desirable.
Also this image is wrong, Samurai can use throwing weapons. Both Sou and Tohya have.

Sandbox style MMO with no factions but instead companies/guilds of players teaming up to secure resources/dungeons/loot throughout the world by building bases around said areas.

The overall gameplay of ffxi wasnt the best but i did like how it was very heavily focused on teamwork and playing your role. I basically want an older MMO but in modern times, which doesn't really work with today's audience. Too many games these days want you to be some heroic hero that saves the realm, when older games had their own lore and stuff, but it was up to the players to build the realm and make it worth coming back to. It wouldn't be super profitable, but it would be something that could sustain itself over time I would think.

Maybe just have it be $5 a month to keep riffraff out and keep the server running, since it shouldn't take that much these days for a small scale MMO to operate.

Story:
for FTL flight STUFF is needed, a fine powder which is only found very thinly spread requiring massive sieves to slowly gather. A trading company found a planet where it is concentrated and is secretly excavating it, the empire finds out about the planet and commandeers it. The company decides to become independent and offers money for every merc that comes to the planet in defense.
Gameplay:
You either pick empire of Trading company, you get your basic gun, personal shield generator and armor. You can take on contracts of NPCs (raid mining facilities, protect mining facilities, kill person X (other player that racked up a bounty by killing people or getting too strong) or just kill a bunch of dudes). Your shield generator is the only thing that protects you from getting 1shot by most guns, but it generates a signature people can scan from afar, so if oyu want to be sneaky you have to turn it off. Signatures are unique for shield generators. So if you have a bounty and it is known what your shield signature is turning it on is even scarier. So there is this balance between PVP to either collect bounties or steal other people their stuff and setting up and protecting harvesting rigs as they collect mad STUFF. STUFF can be turned into money to buy vehicles, better guns, shield generators, better shield generator scanners, and Epeen stuff. Weaker players can compete with better players because if they can shoot someone with their shield down they can get mad loot.
The STUFF->money conversion can be adjusted to make fighting/harvesting more balanced to prevent endless fighting or AFKfarming.

the FUN:
Sitting in a jungle hunting someone, or protecting someone in a Vietnam-style oppressive jungle. Cooperating with others to get a massive mining operation set up, or sacking someone else his operation.
