Same, I've got like 4 ideas for 4 different genres of games I'd like to make but all but one of them are too large in scope to even attempt alone and the only feasible one would still be like 6+ years of solo work.

Another thing that's hard for me is that many of my game ideas are just taking existing ideas that either haven't been attempted for a while or need a spiritual successor. For example two of my ideas are just Morrowind successor and City of Heroes successor. My only original idea is still a pretty explored genre already and isn't that unique.

Kind of. I'm not trying to fully emulate the console's limitations because I'm going to be using more effects and objects on-screen and models will be more detailed than they are on the PS1, but still blocky and pixelated.

I would look into blocky/pixelated games and get an idea of how far you want to go with one spectrum or the other. Mixing may be one thing but it's hard to mix graphical terms and make it look good. For now consistency is your best bet. However, if you're willing to take the time, make it more smoother looking while being blocky if that makes sense, but it will require more work.

All in all, it's just a matter the route you want to take. If something screams at you "NO!" then it's probably best to take a step back and look at the work again just in case. However, don't feel frightened to try new things or ventures.

Beat it's bassline is an E minor seventh chord with a ninth as a passing tone. There's some rhythm at play, the third going down onto the root adds some tension which is resolved by descent from the ninth to the seventh.
The first bar here isn't even a regular chord or if it is, it's too inverted/extended. It's just wanking up/down on F,Eb,C and Bb with no clear motive or rhythm besides a little staccato.

Clean sounds almost always come from proper mixing and EQing.

The best way to EQ is to not add any plug-ins or effects to your samples/vsts, then have them unpanned and the same volume. Add EQ depending on what HZ the timbre sounds the best in (plenty of EQ charts and stuff on the web that show which sounds sound best in which HZ ranges) and then when you can differentiate the sounds when they are unpanned or edited, then you can pan them to separate them and and have an even clearer soundstage.

Did you just one day say to yourself "okay, this will finally be the day I start", open up whatever engine you're using, and go through a bunch of tutorials? It seems like the hurdle to even start is limited doing hours of tutorials to produce what you want and learn the engine.

the "you can try it too" thing isn't really good in my opinion. I understand what youre trying to do, but if someone's playing alone, seeing a "you" that doesn't exist can be kind of bad. Also, the press start button tells exactly the same thing in a more subtle way, so there's no need for it.
