The difficulty bump from the last gym to the elite four in RBY is pretty big. You go from fighting level 40s to level 55s, and you don't gain nearly enough exp from the trip to the pokemon league.

I always grind a little in the beginning of pokemon and boom literally nothing can stop me for the rest of the game. Pokemon is honestly too simple and too easy, it was a perfect entry point to RPG's when I was 7 but they're just not very entertaining for me as an adult, at least not when there's games with deeper battle systems and more engaging stories. Hell, you even get the collecting aspect from SMT and Persona.

Bloodstarved Beast or Vicar Amelia are basically just a DPS check, so I'd call them a casual filter. You need to deal enough damage to outpace the poison of Bloodstarved Beast or the healing of Vicar Amelia. If can do that it's easy mode, but if you can't they become pretty annoying.

Wobbuffet is basically any 1-2 pokemon you want gone due to counter/mirror coat. Just send it out on their Acemon, pick the appropiate retaliation move and then heal with a potion. Hell, you can even use Destiny Bond if you want if it keeps swapping between physical and special moves.
