what mods are essential for this?
>>
>>385732321
For me, Prepare Carefully. The option to make custom colonists should be default. Of course people are going to abuse it and make perfect colonists with no defects, but fuck those people. Having to constantly re-random colonists to get 1-2 that aren't completely useless sucks, and as an adult I can responsibly make my own colonists that have strengths and weaknesses. Plus it lets you roleplay as specific types of colonies a lot easier.

There is another mod I use I forget what it's called. Combat Realism I think. I'm willing to bet the 2 I mentioned are the most popular mods too.

Is there any downside to having this many muffalo? So far i'm having no problem feeding them with just grass, but at the same time they aren't really providing any benefit for the colony either. Should I slaughter them? Or train them as an army or what?

>>
>>385732057
>Incapable of dumb labor

>>
>>385736587
No inherent downside if you can keep them fed. You might wanna start growing haygrass for them while you've got the time and personel.

Preggers muffalos make milk, just have a stud muffalo and a bunch of females, you should have plenty of meat each season.
>>
>>385732321
If there's a small mod that reduces the prisoner mistreatment penalties I'd get it.

Really, 95% of people aren't going to lose sleep if the guy who assaulted their compound, threw a grenade and murdered their farm animals and friends gets his eye harvested.

Ideally I'd have it so like, 20% of people care if raiders get mistreated, 40% of people care if Tribals get mistreated, 60% don't give a shit, but I dunno if that is possible. The fact that the game assumes all these people are so moral bugs me.
>>
>>385736587

I think the only pets worth have are the wolves, they can haul, carry injured and attack. Food is not a problem late in the game.
>>
>>385737215
This sounds like a great idea and I'm sad I can't find it if it does exist.
Yes I know about the mod that makes it so all penalties for mistreating prisoners are gone but that's too extreme.
>>
>>385737345
>>385736770
What I think I'll do is train them all to release then use them to attack raider bases since they don't provide much food for me (I don't need the milk) and they literally reproduce once every 5 minutes
>>
>>385736587
Their wool is the best for winter.
>>
>>385738005
I put my colony in an area that only goes down to 16°C in the winter and only 35° in the summer, temperature is a non issue
>>
>>385737215
I'd like to see a "idealistic" or "sympathetic" trait that's semi-common that would make people upset about any mistreatment (like is the default now), with the norm being a reduced scope of caring like you describe.
>>
>>385738208
I wanted to try out a real winter colony, so my current one is boreal with twenty growing days a year. I have to grow tons of hay to keep up with my muffalo herd all year, but the goods they produce are basically overpowered.

>spend so long putting out fires and dealing with all this shit people are collapsing from exhaustion
>fully recover from the whole ordeal with next to no losses, material or flesh
>twenty minutes later a flashstorm in the worst possible location ruins it all for good

this game is fun
>>
>>385737594
First trail of the war muffalos on a sapper raid went pretty well, they tunneled into a place where I had no defences and no good fortifications to fire from, I set the Muffs upon them and in a small amount of time they were all dead, dying or fleeing. No colony injuries whatsoever

I lost 2 muffalos and an emu so far and many more are injured, hopefully I can fix them up and their population will recover before the next raid

The game is easy as hell, you have to crank it up to intense or extreme to get any challenge once you get the hang of the game. How do you get 'fucked over' by the game when literally he worst event that can happen is a blight or fallout that stops you from planting outside. If you don't have enough food stockpiled to last you until you can get proper indoor farms or hydroponics set up you're doing it wrong.

I'd highly recommend Combat Extended, AFTER you've rolled a couple vanilla colonies. Not because it will make more sense but because you will see just how essential it is.

EdB Prepare Carefully is good if you want to try different starts, tailor your character's stats, appearance etc. down to the threads.

after the renaissance things like public executions became a rarity, now only shithole countries execute people publically. in the US only the victims families are invited to executions as a means of providing closure. execution in general has been phased out as a punishment for anything except the most heinous crimes.

the Spacers come from diverse backgrounds, many of them come from comfy planets we would consider modern by current standards. only some of them are coldblooded killers by trade. Many are not and would be hesitant to torture and kill living people, your edginess notwithstanding.

Yep, any raider who has a luci addiction will always have a few pieces of luci with them. I've had a guy in four raids now who comes with like 4-7 luci each time, and that's just one guy. My tip is to give your colonists weapons that deal a lot of hits and low damage per hit (SMG, minigun, AR, etc.) because that increases the chance of downed but not killed, which is basically more luci mules. Tribal raiders are best for this because the tribalwear offers garbage defense and it's pretty easy to handle triabls with a bunch of miniguns.

A LOT of them are ex-tribals and raiders for fucks sake.

And again, public executions might be a rarity now, and executions might be on the way out in general, although they still have a high amount of support, But that's my entire point. You are taking the moral outlook of a SMALL PART of the population (basically just the west) of Earth in a SMALL PORTION of time (the last like, 50 years really, I mean the guillotine hasn't even been gone that long, and extending that to 95% of the entire population of this gameworld, which isn't at ALL logical.
You say that, "The spacers come from diverse background", you realise that your modern ideals are STILL a minority of the population currently? You think people in the Middle East and Africa give a fuck? China only reformed it's laws recently and that's ONLY because of global pressure from the West.

I mean, your whole argument hinges on legality, but legality doesn't actually mean so much when it comes to people. The government does not dictate people's beliefs. You realise about half of people in America favour the death penalty currently right?

I think it's just one or two anons that have gotten into it lately.

I've been playing as well so I check for this thread in the catalog.

The base thus far

I have too many "chemical interest" pawns to consider hoarding luciferium. I tend to burn all drugs, which kind of sucks but it keeps the place clean. That way I don't have to worry about the chemical interest pawns.

I wish this trait didn't exist at all. It's such a pain. If just one pawn has it, you know they will get addicted to EVERY FUCKING THING and there's NOTHING YOU CAN DO except burn all drugs in the entire base. It's frustrating. I kind of like to do drug farming for profits and to see pawns smoke a leaf and have a beer now and then.

Ive been into it, but I like to play it with hardcore SK.

I would like to get rimjobworld and children mods into it so I could use child soldiers and human waves with hardcore sk ramped difficulty and combat extended, but I think the aliens and extra items break them.

I started playing the game again like 4 weeks ago, then noticed the threads. I usually watch anime, drink coffee and get comfy with RW so this thread is perfect. Too bad it doesn't garnish a lot of anons so it dies before I get to see good greentext stories. I love seeing base designs of anons. It always sparks an idea in you since I constantly struggle with designing a good base.

>You realise about half of people in America favour the death penalty currently right?
Most of those people are not ready to be the gunman or tie the noose. There's a clinical detachment from death in this country. People can easily go their whole lives never seeing a dead person. We conceal them, we put them away. Once upon a time dead family members lay in state in the house, until funeral arrangements were made. Then Reader's Digest popularized the idea of the Living Room. Now coroners come take the body for storage somewhere remote.

When confronted with the reality of it, with another person who has been mortally ruined, who is dying and crying for their mother, it's not so easy to see them as anything other than humans. that's not to say there are plenty of inhumans fucks in the Rimworld and in reality that mock human life. there will always be those people. but a person is not BORN that way. at least I cannot fathom the world existing as it does when everyone is not only capable of but eager to engage in brutality against strangers, which you seem to be implying.

even in the most savage parts of the world, you can find the righteous.

I'm going for efficiency. The idea is to dig into the mountain as needed to expand. Luxury will come after we have secured our livelihood and safety. To the right you see the beginnings of a killbox. That's the next goal after putting down this psychic ship.
>>
>>385757668
I wish the roads were less shitty, they are an eyesore and hard to incorporate into a build.
>>
>>385757945
Just pretend its post apocalyptic when you build and incorporate them that way.
>>
>>385757596
Citation fucking needed.

And they don't need to see it. They don't need to see anything to do with it. Only the doctor needs to.
Also, you understand that these people in America and whatever support the death penalty for criminals that did nothing to them or those around them. These are not"criminals" in general who the colonists are talking about. These are, as I said people who attacked them with literal murderous intent. People who broke down their walls in the middle of the night after burning their crop and killing their herd. People who crippled their friends and shot at them.

Your argument has no merit. It relies on some nebulous "Human goodness" which is "just out there bro" and you intentionally don't define (well there's no evidence to define it so I guess you had no choice) so that I can't argue against it. capital punishment has OVERWHELMING support outside of the west, including China. Or we could look, historically, at the partition of India, where Hindu's and Muslims tore each other to SHREDS happily and en masse. Where was your human goodness then? What about the Nazi's huh? How did the Holocaust happen?

You can't seem to understand that your ideals are the minority. Most people, they genuinely don't feel that way. Human history is incredibly violent and this fantasy where everyone is born, well, if that was the case then why is history like that?
>>
>>385757945
Maybe if you're a design scrub
>>
>>385757271
Keep your drug stocks behind a wooden wall with no doors and a wood stockpile next to it, that way you can sell them or bring them out in an emergency without chem pawns finding it.
>>

>Human history is incredibly violent and this fantasy where everyone is born, well, if that was the case then why is history like that?
Poverty is literally the reason. Poverty of the checkbook, poverty in the breadbox. Poverty of the mind.

A Rimworld colony is an exceptional case, to be sure. There's no nation-state with laws and constables, and people grow hard or they die. But I stress that there are pawns with backgrounds that would make them very hesitant to kill even aggressors. Some pawns simply cannot fight, they will refuse to retaliate. Because not EVERYONE is born on a shithole Rimworld. Some people are born in luxury, even futuristic luxury.

Simply put, in a modern nation with laws and police, people are overall less brutal. This is absolutely indisputable. Falling homicide rates alone are proof that ending poverty and giving people stability will remove the NEED to be a violent asshole.

>Poverty is literally the reason. Poverty of the checkbook, poverty in the breadbox. Poverty of the mind.
Again, this is just feel good nonsense that sounds profound but has no substance.
The crime rate change could easily be attributed to simply the fact that murder is a LOT harder now. Again, put yourself outside the your current shoes. Modern conveniences like cameras and DNA are just that, modern. And the biggest deterrence to violence is punishment.
I'll need you to both give me the goddamn citation I asked for. Not that it would do much good because these are fucking Tribals and raiders. Poverty doesn't even begin to describe it.

>>385757834
with so much resources and so many pawns i think you should start working towards a better kill box and a more luxury anon.

I'd be upset if this game became dependant on mods.
>>
>>385759970
Yes and no, the dev actually add meaningfull things each big update but also sadly each big update takes months.
>>
>>385760591
Every update adds content, and he will often incorporate popular mods that obviously improve the game into the vanilla experience. The Colonist toolbar at the top of the screen was a mod that looked identical before it was incorporated.

Not to mention modding is a fucking BREEZE in this game. It literally could not be easier. Something you'll never get from Betheshits.

Ok. I find tat when you draft somebody you can order them around.
But how to trash items like used clothes or low quality weapons from storage place?
>>
>>385761418
research for that is a long way away you can burn it in a crematorium, just sell it, or just leave it outside and it will lose hit points eventually
>>
>>385761418
Make a stockpile just for shitty weapons. You can specify range of quality and HP% remaining to filter all the crap. Then give it a super-high priority and your haulers will pull the crap within that range from your good stockpiles.

You can also build a crematory to burn crap clothes. A smithy can break down weapons for a small refund on materials. Or you can just put it outside and it will degrade to dust over time.

Did you read that link?
80% of it is wankery over what "aggression" is, and how it's very hard to define so therefore we can define it how we want (oddly reflecting one of my earlier complaints). At one point she brings up the "Warrior Gene", and basically says that because it doesn't result in aggression all of the time it doesn't really mean anything, which is... a mind boggling stupid result to take. Then she just goes back to wankery about what aggression "truly" is.
20% of it is saying that warfare never happened in ye good old days, which is both disingenous (huge amounts of history are unknown to us because there's just no evidence around for us to find out, do a few google searches and you can find out just how little we actually know. We go off of luckily preserved specimens and small bones to paint a picture of what we think happened. Saying "there's no evidence of it before evidence was common" coupled with the fact that warfare requires the logistics of a feudal society at LEAST to make it the difference between actual warfare and a normal weekend around Chicago makes this claim absolutely retarded.

It looks like you just googled for something to support your point and grabbed the first piece of trash that you saw, because this is just a glorified opinion piece drawing conclusions from other studies with strained to nonexistent reasoning.

Not to mention you are RADICALLY misrepresenting my argument. These are not random people who you're aggressively hunting. These are would be murderers who were aggressively hunting YOU. The thing she argues against in this article is that humans, upon coming upon another society, their first instinct isn't to raid it (colonialism doesn't agree but whatever). This is made even funnier by the fact that THAT'S HOW I MET THIS PRISONER GUY INGAME, HE SAW ME, HE ATTACKED ME THAT'S LITERALLY HOW WE GOT INTO THIS SITUATION, THAT MAN WHO IS NOW SAD? HE ALSO SAW AND ATTACKED ME AND LATER DEFECTED TO MY SIDE.

>neither marriages despite people getting married
what gives? maybe one of the mods fucked it up? I don't get it. I miss seeing my colony come together and get boosts in happiness.

I know for parties you need someone with high social skill, I think. They usually are the ones throwing the parties. I have a few, but they never do any parties at all.
