Concept is pretty good and fun for some time but it has the same problem like borderlands
It's repetitive as hell. Every mission is basically go there, fetch/kill this, come back
It's a skinner box simulation. You keep pressing the button and everytime you do you get a nice little reward. Rats get cheese, players get colourful gear.

Game stops being good after the beach though really, the jungle part was horrendous.

I know Dying light is a better game but I still kind of like Dead Island more.

Had fun with it playing it local coop with my bro and a friend. The game really feels like dying light beta, especially the city level.
Overall it's a nice game to play with friends, the loot and crafting system are nice even though weapons breaking fast can be frustrating.
The quests are pretty shitty, like in dying light, but who cares really.
The gunplay is ok and the game does a pretty good job at having you swich firearms/melee weapons

it's a good game if you like the zombie genre, it's a bad game if you DON'T like the zombie genre. Dying Light has better controls and gameplay but it lacks the atmosphere Dead Island has.

They're still supporting dying light, they released a bit of new content like last week.
I've heard of hellraid but the last video I watched was kinda disappointing.
