I recently played through it thanks to it being free on PS Plus, and I actually quite enjoyed it despite knowing fuck all about the characters or setting.
Is the Telltale game, and it's playable characters, actually from any of the GoT fiction or was it a completely new thing?

The primary cast of characters are original created by Telltale, the settings and many of the side characters, good and bad, are from the books and portrayed more like their TV counterparts than the book ones.

The original characters fit in fairly well, but are completely and utterly original.
