What's the consensus on this game here in /v/?

I have a friend who's a diehard Metal Gear fan and V is by far his favorite. But I can't tell if it's genuine or just fanboyism because I've read several people criticizing the ending, etc.

it depends what his main attraction to the series is. if he likes gimmicks, stupid humour, and character interaction/dialogue, he's just being a fanboy. if he likes the series for what they are, kojima's personal essays on world affairs, then V should definitely be his favourite.
