If you try to hop on the siderails and hold A+forward to autoclimb, Altair hops off the rail instead of leap to the post. The solution is to simply stand underneath the post and do a manual jump, or climb the side rail and tap A to do a manual leap straight to it.

The rail's right there for you to jump off of, and for the entire game you've been jumping from one post/ledge/rail to another. It doesn't occur to some people because it just seems weird that a regular jump can do what a ledge jump can't.
