The game genuinley feels like Far Cry mashed with Skyrim with some elements of Assassin's Creed in it here and there. The whole night time super zombies and invasion thing are pretty cool though, so is the air drops that fall in sporadically, but the core mechanics of the game are meh.

What exactly separates it from Skyrim's combat? You get a nice dodge, a stamina bar, some strong attacks and a weak attack. You eventually get other things but they don't really add to combat in any meaningful way, so overall the only thing it does better than Skyrim is give you a dodge.

The only thing this dude does is bait out an attack, dodge backwards, and then punish him. He can't even dodge to the side because the dude's attacks track hard as fuck. Also when he takes too much damage he just hides for a short while until the health regen kicks in and allows him to keep playing.

If this fight is supposed to showcase how good the combat is then I'm not very impressed.

Didn't played DM except demo version, so I don't know how many weapons and stuff is there.
But in Dying Light there are >>385714926 combat moves, somewhere around 10-20 different types of melee weapons, some of them have somehow different movesets, few elemental upgrades which can be applied to any meele weapon and even to the shield. There's also few guns, bow-crossbow, a lot of throwables that can be considered as magic, i.e. elemental grenades, molotovs, flares, mines, just some axes/shurikens. Also some environmental traps. And stuff like camouflage, stealth kills, grappling hook. And motherfucking buggy on top of that.
I'm not sure DM have much more than that.

The melee combat itself isn't interesting or good so the weapon diversity with it isn't going to help at all. Furi only has two weapons and its combat system is much more fun.

The lockpicking has been in other games than just muh bethesda games. Oh and tower climbing isnt even close to how it works in ass creed, those are the little ground level outposts you clear. Rarely will you have to do a tower for one, and even then they are more like platforming puzzles on the harder ones than whatever asscreed does since asscreeed decided jump buttons are lame.

Seriously though the momentum and jump button alone makes it so much more than alot of games like it.

I began on hard and had the same problem for the first hour. Then I crafted Wrench Kiss weapon and began tearing those zombs apart in 3-4 hits to the head. Well you're not doing a great job explaining why you hold that opinion. Pretty much all of the combat abilities are fairly situational and don't really lead into one another in an interesting way. I guess knock downs into head stomps is sort of a combo, but ultimately the moves you get are just situational damage dealers.

Even when playing with my friends that have 200 hours into the game, the still just ran up and slapped zombies around with their melee weapons. Sometimes they did drop attacks and slide kicks, but it seemed more out of novelty than out of it even being a efficient and safe attack.

Nightmare is more for the completionists. With the legend ranks you can clean house once you're max level. Otherwise it'd be way too easy once you max all out. But it is a shitfest in the beginning.
