The sleeve is one of the only parts of the character that is consistent and makes sense. The sleeve is on the arm that supports the rifle while laying in the prone position. The arm that will be pressed into the rocks and dirt for long periods of time while sitting in a sniper's hide. So that elbow needs protection.

She sits on top of things in the open without using camouflage. Her positioning is horrible. She kneels upright at the most obvious places that someone would shoot from to get a good view, silhouetting herself against the sky.

Why the hell would someone who can turn invisible and leap 50 feet completely silently while traveling faster than a car and can also do crazy backflip hand-to-hand combat be used as a "sniper?" She can jump through an entire base and find everything in it within seconds. She could finish any of Venom's missions in a fraction of the time he could. Why is the game about Venom at that point? He is supposed to be the star soldier of the group.

Her powers are inconsistent. At her final mission she is captured by the Soviets, which should be impossible considering her abilities. Then suddenly she can kill them all. Then a sandstorm comes and she is disabled by it and can't even walk, but then when the plot needs her to not be disabled so she is perfectly fine again.

She is a "sniper" but is actually a terrible sniper other than marksmanship.

I think Kojima anticipated people seeing Quiet and going "wow, what a slut" but because of prudist Western culture the backlash ended up being directed at him instead for making such a character. Actually it does. For a guy who pretends to know a lot about snipers it seems odd you don't know about how they have spotters for a reason, almost always, in real life. The game explains this, that she doesnt need one. Makes her able to operate alone. They also explain how she can track object in space at different depths individually with each eye, helping with target acquisition and giving her some sort of ability to make spatial calculations related to her bullets travel. Its explained better in the game. Another indication you didn't pay attention when playing, if you played

Snipers don't always operate in pairs. This is a more recent trend, as well as what was common in the early days of sniping. SEAL team snipers have begun to do this more. Having a spotter isn't completely necessary. Just more efficient.

The spotter's most important job is guiding the shooter to streamline the process of figuring out the firing solution. Again, it doesn't matter how well she shoots. She's not a sniper. The word sniping comes from the hunting of the snipe bird. An elusive prey that requires camouflage and good shooting skill to bag. Camouflage and fieldcraft is just as much a part of sniping as marksmanship.

The real problem with Quiet is that she won't shut up. She has one single line to hum and she repeats it non-stop when she gets into position. She should hum her whole song or along to the radio music or anything other than that 6 second loop for every single mission in a game about grinding missions.
So I never took her with me. I'd rather have the dog or walker gear.

I didn't really care for Quiet, and nothing about her design really does it for me, but I'm glad Kojima didn't back down. Even if I have a low opinion of Quiet, I support her inclusion and that she wasn't changed because it's the damn principle of the matter, really.
