Reminder that when the T-34 was introduced during Operation Barbarossa, it had a higher rate of mechanical breakdown than the Panther did during Operation Citadel. Not to mention all the mechanical flaws that were present in the Panther during Operation Citadel were fixed afterwards vastly reducing the Panther's breakdown rate.

Not to mention the Panther had a ridiculously higher K:D ratio than the T-34

You could bring up Russia, but that was a pre-preemptive strike seeing as the Russians had forces building up along the border, & German Intelligence had caught wind of what they were doing to the Germans in their section of Poland. The worst of all is the u.s provoking japan to attack, launching the U.S. in to the war. Damn you FDR, also for giving the Rothschild the fed. res.

It counts when it you're winning though. The only thing that kept the americans from getting a heavy tank earlier in the war were the generals who saw that victory was at hand and didnt see the need to order another vehicle with the time, resources and tools needed for it, not to mention training the crews and making sure every fucker in the allied forces can identiffy this new thing instead of shooting at it in panic before noticing it had a white star instead of an iron cross.
>>
>>385702109
Air superiority and artillery strikes were alot more efficient than transporting pershings and t29s across the Atlantic. It had more to do with logistics, and that you can churn out quality troops/gear/war machines the closer you are from your industrial homeland

Stupid germans were considered about stroking the ego of their glorious aces. Everybody else were considered about WINNING THE WAR.
Also, in 1944 T-34-85 was introduced, which made the Koenigtiger its bitch on first encounter at Sandomierz bridgehead (one was even captured).
Just admit it, german tanks sucked.
>>
>>385703691
German hyper obsession with iterative design and over-engineering was always fighting against them.

It's one reason I always find it silly when people do "nazis win the war" stuff and they're not an ass backwards nation by the 60s. They hated science, but had a boner for engineering. They'd never have made much progress anywhere.

who the fuck would pit t-34 vs panther?? no one who even cares about WW2 period is questioning the panther, it was superior to everything, even with the "failures". the panther II chasis was god.

the t-34 was a piece of garbage that you couldn't even see out of. the proper comparison should be against the panzer 4 and even the 4 had a better gun. problem was panzer 4 profile and how it handled on Russian terrain.

with Wehr you want to make the enemy struggle to choose what unit to destroy.
i'll have one vetted gren squad, a pak gun, a sniper, a mg, a halftrack and then the first armor piece will be a stug ASAP.
so if all those are relatively close to each other, you're gonna have a hard time because there's no obvious priority target, you're gonna take massive loss no matter what you choose and how you attack it.
>>
>>385705843
>have a huge political purge of your officer corps
>get invaded before you have time to retrain and restructure

They had to redesign their entire doctrine in such a way that they could operate without people needing specialised training. The influence of this is still felt in the Russian army with it's centralised artillery control. The idea obviously being that the few educated people could make better calls than the farmer who has had 6 weeks of training and by sticking to a broad plan there was less chance of fuck ups.

and it's fucking effective. It's actually quite difficult to deal with. Hell NATO's defence in depth struggled to handle it during wargames because all it takes is a couple of fuckups during the complex maneuvers you do and all of a sudden you have out of position armour because the sovets have pushed the line 50 miles forwards and you're now surrounded.

In 1942, yes. And it failed.
1943 and further, it was the application of the deep operation theory (essentially blitzkrieg, but developed independently regarding the cavalry operations during the Civil war) on comparable technical level and with superior numbers. Operation Bagration was Barbarossa with sides switched, resulting in Heeresgruppe Mitte getting their asses handed to them with a new hole torn.

How is the MG42 the best machine gun? A too high rate of fire means unnecessarily high ammo consumption and wear of internal parts. There is a reason why the successors of the MG42 have a lowered rate of fire.

Easy mass-producible and cheaper units with standard parts always trumps expensive hand built units. This is especially true during wars.
>>
I mean, no matter what kind of tanks they had, the Germans couldn't have won
Fighting against Russia was bad enough, but having the US join the war on top of that just means they'd be outproduced massively
You'd need actual future tech to win WW2 as Germany

>How did Hitler ever expect to win against them?
speed and surprise, which they had going for them initially, but once they lose that advantage there's fucked and he wouldnt surrender
>>
>>385711878
The rate of fire on it was eventually cut down to try and counter the wear on it.

"Best" probably isn't the best word, maybe more "iconic". Going up against an MG42 nest was supposedly one of the most demoralizing things troops had to deal with to the point they made training films specifically on how to deal with them.
>>
>>385712268

How do you win a firefight? By gaining and maintaining fire superiority. You can't advance without fire superiority and you can't stop the enemy without fire superiority. How do you gain fire superiority when in most cases you're heavily outnumbert? There was a good reason Hitler forbit the development of non full auto infantry weapons near end of the war. The MG42 wasn't necessarily the best MG of all time but it was exactly what they needed.
