My friend told me about this game called Galerians. You're this guy in some labratory and you have superpowers. I just watched him play it, but I had never heard of before, so maybe you'll like it.
Might I recommend the first two Suikodens and Monster Ranchers? And the two Tomba games too I guess.

I remember that game. It had an interesting premise; you're a kid with the power to kill with your mind, only the more you do it the more powerful you become, until your powers start harming you as well. Then you have to shoot up drugs to bring yourself back down to normal.

Colony Wars series is a lot of fun, you can never have enough space combat.
Threads of Fate/Dewprism. Came out during a summer with a lot of big name RPGs so it fell by the wayside, but it's a fun time.
