Anon, you must understand that the people who are apart or were apart of CoH were the kind you rarely ever see anymore.

It's like a close family, and the community there is something you don't see ever in gaming. CoH is a scar that easily has never been let go. I always wonder if NCSoft ever looks into the Leftover CoH communities and wonder if they made a mistake.

Ship of heroes is the only promising thing atm. Though, we are nowhere near another CoH game. We probably never will, MXM using CoH npcs was the sword that cut deeper then anything could before it finally put the nail in coffin that we will never see CoH come back for good.

You know most of the original CoH devs stayed at NCSoft and formed Paragon Studios, right?

While I loved CoH, let's not pretend that it can't be improved. In my opinion that's what these senpai projects are lacking. They're so caught up in recreating a lost and beloved game that they don't see the need for it to evolve.

For one they can take a hint from the movement systems in DCUO. It's a shot game, yes, but unlike basically every other MMO flying is actually fun. Every movement style is fun. Even superspeed is fun once you find a good incline and launch yourself in to space.

Also the "war walls" need to go. Open up the world and let players take the fuck off.

DCUO is the best MMO ever till you hit the endgame. The missions were fun and fast paced, the story was interesting, the scenery is neat, but that endgame content is literally like hitting a concrete wall. The fun absolutely stops there.

So far it seems like City of Titans is doing the most to evolve their game systems beyond what CoH was. Valiance looks like a straight clone of CoH, and Ship of Heroes is somewhere in the middle. I just wish CoT would make progress faster.

I'm concerned about 3 competing superhero MMOs all releasing within several years of each other. They're all aiming at the same niche audience and I'm worried that it'll make it impossible for any of them to really succeed. I wish the dev teams could have come together to work on one single game. I understand there are some minor creative differences but forming 3 entirely separate indie MMO projects just seems crazy.

Sequestering the map off into zones might be old school, but zoning allows you to really put your all into into a single area, without having to care all that much how it "blends" into the rest of the map, how the enemies in it scale compared to the enemies nearby(and how often underleveled players will stumblefuck into the zone and get raped. War walls had a singular advantage of setting up the security checkpoint at the start, and letting a player take a look before fucking off into a rikti anal probe by mistake), how the content fits with the nearest other area's content, etc.

All you gotta do is keep a general world map in mind, and don't do something fuck all weird that doesn't belong connected to the zone next to it, and you're gold. Makes life easy on the devs, makes moving around easy to understand for the players. The real "disadvantage" is content not scaling to your level if you ever go back outside of instances, but even CoH was starting to work in partial solutions to that with old MUD-style realm tech. These days that sort of division should be a fucking snap.
