Just finished first play-through. I'm curious if it impacts the endings for characters given that you can send some back to the Commonwealth without unlocking their bio and learning their backstory during gameplay.

Like I sent Rukey first without even understanding what his connection is to Barker. Did that impact his portion of the ending?

I'm not certain about the specifics, but for example, I had the Reader stay behind. Because of that, in Hedwyn's epilogue, it said he felt regret over breaking his promise that we would all make it back together.
I assume if Barker goes free/you don't do Rukey's storyline with him, his epilogue gets interfered with, though you'd have to tell us what your epilogue said.

Hey, the language spoken by most characters in Pyre is a fictitious language we created for the game, called Sahrian. We wanted it to sound like an authentic old-world language. It takes influence from Latin as well as several other Western and Eastern languages.

We wrote thousands of lines of this stuff! Some characters even speak in specific dialects of Sahrian, to reflect their nonstandard mode of speech in the game. It's all there to enhance the personalities of all the different characters and make the world more flavorful -- hope you enjoy it!

'Noxalas' is Sahrian for 'Nightwings', or 'For the Nightwings!'

Note even though we recorded many phrases based on specific English translations, in the end we matched each verbal quip based on the overall sound and tone, to make sure it aligned with the feel of that moment. In other words please don't assume most lines are a verbatim translation, though we do repeat certain phrases in consistent contexts wherever we could.

A fun detail in Versus Mode is that you can get any of the characters to shout the names of any of the triumvirates by mixing and matching characters and triumvirates in whatever combination. You hear on the victory screens after each Rite.

English is used in specific contexts in the game -- the Voice, the lyrics of the songs, and a moment or two from Volfred Sandalwood. It represents an older and more ancient language, with which the Reader is familiar, as opposed to the more 'modern' conversational language used by most of the characters...!

It all ties back to how your character in the game has a rare ability to interpret things like the Book of Rites.

It was made to support what we were trying to do in the game, so while we have some sense of the grammar and sentence structure, maintained a dictionary that grew pretty long, and know what longer sentences would look and sound like, we focused on shorter phrases simply because they felt better in context.

We would record a variety of phrases for each character in a variety of inflections, e.g. say this as though you're threatening someone, or say this as though you're anxious about something, and so on. Actors would have an English expression in mind while reading the Sahrian. We had rules around the pronunciation, and I would write everything out phonetically as well. We would focus on trying to get the accents right and so on.

We may reveal more of the details if there's a lot of interest but it's not really in a shareable form right now, and we mostly just want it to feel like a lifelike part of the game while retaining some of its inherent mystery.

Pretty much all of my characters except manley, uldmildhe, tamitha and got good endings in my play through though, and from what I've seen there's just absolutely no way to get a good ending for Manley. I assume you can probably get an ending which is relatively good for udmildhe/tamitha by getting them up to the surface, but no matter what you do manley just gets fucked.

after volfred buried the wagon it kind of paused the end of the rites for a bit, and when hedwyn&co. dig it up they restart it

so you gradually get the stars turning off as you play to symbolize their end

i promised ti'zo, rhae and others to get together again, so i freed myself. bertrude and volfred had some feelings for each other,
so i have no regrets for them. pam always wanted to be with her sister, they are together in exile.

Pamitha and Tamitha being on the same level is far more important for Pamitha, and since if the Reader's going up to be part of the original 4 that means Oralech is staying down, that automates the choice for Ti'Zo and Volfred, even if TiZo would like the Reader.

So probably Ti'Zo & Volfred (for Oralech) + either Pamitha (since Tamitha is down) or Chae (since Almer is down).

I can't get the achievements for versus mode to work. I've got Masteries on Default, Talismans on but Customizing off so I get default talismans and masteries on everyone and enemy set to 5, and it doesn't count.

Did anyone notice that as soon as they took one of her speed-up masteries, her window to power-cast/power-jump also shortens? Most characters have maybe a half-second allowance on power-casting, but Rhae's shortens down to some frame-perfect shit.

Between hyperspeed power-casts, infinite Stamina with the Orb, and the ability to fucking TELEPORT to idle Orbs, savages would tear up any online implementation that they ever did.

i think they've balanced around default masteries though, you'll find that with 4 masteries there's no reason not to pick nightwings because their base stats are just better

default setting compensates those lower stats with extra masteries so you can actually play lendel/sandra/etc.

Sandra has the exact same masteries I had on my Hedwyn and they really obsolete her stats since they're all leadership stuff.

I don't know why they decided to have different stats for people tbqh except maybe extreme outliers like Oralech, but you really ought to be able to play perfectly equalized if they go online.

I meant the time window for a power-cast, not the time until you could power-cast. It's a lot harder than on other characters.

To be fair, balance can't really be a problem without online versus, and any attempts to balance the entire Versus roster in a satisfying way would give even Icefrog nightmares. I can respect any decisions to avoid that can of worms entirely, especially when their experience is in single-player games.
