I don't know. Also, the screen wasn't backlit in the original GBA. I remember having a bunch of weird gadgets for it like battery extenders and wirey light things to light up the screen.

That's why most early GBA games have that fucked up collor palette.

Favorite GBA game?

Mine is honestly Megaman Battle Network 4: Blue Moon. I was able to buy it in 9th grade because of winning a $50 Best Buy gift card. There was a radio station outside of Farmer Jack that was doing a promo. People would stnad inside a machine with a vacuum blowing fake bills inside. One would be a gift card; stepping in I asked a demon to guide my hand to the winning bill. I closed my hand and reached out; it was the winner. From then on, the game was bought. All was well until I realized that the price was paid. Now the demon I asked for Megaman Battle Network 4: Blue Moon is getting its required payment: acquisition of my future, which affects the future of many.

Hm, that's a hard one. It's probably the console I've played the most in my life, I've probably played all western released GBA games at least once, through emulators. Obviously not all to completion.

The Battle Network series is pretty good indeed, I remember being blown away by the gameplay and art style back when I was younger.

I really enjoy Minish Cap, Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission. Those three probably share the title of favorite for me. But then again, there's also the Fire Emblem and Advance Wars titles, Mario & Luigi, Aria of Sorrow, FFTA, WarioWare, Mario Kart, Pokemon Emerald, it's just impossible to pick a single favorite.

I have played all the EXE games and watched all the anime. Admittedly, it is nostalgia. other wises it is EXE2 because it is about breaking the game. Othewise 3 really is the one with least amount of problems. However 3 has the shrink program, which was really detrimental in an otherwise great game. Hell, the introduction of NaviCust was a boon and a blessing.

Or if you were poor, your parents got you one of these. I don't think they even have a quantifiable resolution because they have glorified calculator displays in them. They can't render backgrounds or anything. That background is a piece of paper behind the display.

Megaman Zero series, BattleNetwork series, Minish Cap, Metroid Zero Mission and Fusion just to name a few off the top of my head.

Minish Cap's sprites and tiles (for the most part) look like they're larger than 16x16. 16x16 graphics would be perfectly fine with that resolution. Besides, not all screens in Minish Cap are as cramped as that room. Many screens are so large that they scroll.
>>
>>385680703
Those games were such bullshit too. Win or fail is decided by arbitrary timing that you really have no way of knowing, because there aren't any visual queues to base off of.
>>
>>385681086
yes, I mean, there's no other way to run Wii games at higher resolutions than 480i/480p, right?
>>
>>385681020
Yeah, by default most things upscaled with bilinear, so native resolution is a 240p image being rendered then dolphin upscaling it to whatever you monitor/window resolution is by using bilinear. The game itself doesn't have any filtering going on, so when you render it at a higher resolution, the sprites are being scaled with nearest neighbor.

Huh? I honestly don't know why people have such fondness for the GBA library.
GBC and NDS both had much better libraries.

GBA had the shitties Pokemon games, the shitties Mario games, the shittiest Mario Kart and for the most part was the console where Nintendo just dumped their old SNES titles on.

What were the actually great GBA games that stood the test of time? Minish Cap, Metroid Fusion, Mario & Luigi, Golden Sun, FFTA.... maybe Mario vs Donkey Kong and Wario Land too.

But that's not a very impressive list in comparison.

the amount of work and engineering put into Dolphin is fucking ridiculous, I risk saying that at this point it might be the best option if you wanna emulate some N64 games (emulating their respective Wii Shop versions)

just recently they posted this:
https://dolphin-emu.org/blog/2017/07/30/ubershaders/
to sum it up, (and if I got it right) they make a pretend-rendering of the game while the game is running to buffer shaders because the Gamecube (and the Wii too since it's almost the same) GPU can't buffer shaders

these guys are fucking nuts, and I thank them for it, I love how GC/Wii games look in 1080+

I don't think a single emulator will ever receive the amount of care and attention that Dolphin got and is still getting. Hell whenever Nintendo does their Gamecube VC I doubt it'll even be close to as good (unless they say fuck it and somehow use Dolphin themselves, which definitely won't happen).

Pokemon mystery dungeon. Although Fire emblem 8, FFTA, Mother 3 and all the final fantasy ports took up my time on it too.

Pic related was fun but I feel like I'm the only person on the planet who played the GBA version, and that's among a population of like 5 people who've played the game on any console.

Dolphin is no better than a handful of other emulators for the N64 VC games.

Open that in a new tab and ctrl+scroll up for 7 clicks. That is the actual size of the screen. Actual size ≠ actual resolution.

They won't need a GC emulator since they still have all the code and assets from their Gamecube days. Hence all the WiiU HD remasters that don't touch the Wii mode/hardware on the system at all.

I guess it would be nice for third parties that want to put up their GC games. But what decent third party GC games are there? Resident Evil 4? It's been ported to every system under the sun, and capcom would just remaster it again and sell it for full price.

When I played that game I just passed it off as shitty average game, but there was a point in my life where I actually had a 'stuck with only three game with no internet' scenario, and that was one of the game. This game is oddly better on multiple playthroughs.

It came with my nintendo DS, the only game I had for a couple weeks, along with the Metroid Prime Hunter: First Hunt demo, which honestly got played ten times rome than the Urbz, kek. Still, I played it for a couple dozen hours, got all the minigames. All those hours spent cleaning glass windows...

We suffered through the 3DS as well. Nintendo finally has a decent handheld now. Fuck all the fanboys who claims graphics don't matter but are loving the Switch for it's graphics.

Sometimes /v/ is worth coming to.

Huge gbafag here, posting some unknown great games on it.

Firstly is Ninja Five-O, or Ninja Cop in Europe. Made by Konami this is a fantastic action platformer, think of it almost as bionic commando meets strider 1. Your character has two forms of attacks, a projectile that you can level up and your sword. More interesting is you have a grappling hook, the physics of this thing is pretty insane and takes getting used to. This game is balls to walls hard, even on the easiest setting expect a decent challenge. Sadly copies are expensive but that's what emulation is for.

Scurge: Hive

A great metroid inspired game. The game is less about exploration and puts a greater focus on combat as rooms are often filled with multiple enemies. There are light rpg elements as enemies leave behind a goo that you absorb and acts as experience. Not only this but your character is infected with a virus that is slowly killing her. At the top a meter will slowly build up, when it reaches 100% she will begin to take damage. The game is about managing your virus while also traversing levels and solving puzzles to advance.

If only the GBA had one more GOAT licensed game, then there would be a holy trinity.

Wade Hixton's Counter Punch

This game is a great tribute to Punchout. The game plays exactly like Punchout, even keeping the wacky opponents like a pimp and a rave girl who will turn off the lights. The game has a really cool early 2000's cartoon artstyle that looks great and the fighters are animated quite well.

Rebelstar: Tactical Command

While you may immediately think this is shovelware from that boxart you would be surprised to know that this game was made by the creator of the XCOM games. This is a great strategy rpg with a great anime artstyle. Be aware the game is simpler then XCOM in terms of mechanics but still great fun.
