Dragon Quest doesn't just have to rely on tie ins to Dragon Ball. But in that note, DBZ is hardly going away. Dragon Ball games released in the west sell 4+ million. Some good marketing tie ins could really help Dragon Quest. Along with name dropping Chrono Trigger, making allusions to Pokemon and marketing Dragon Quest as a return to classic CRPGs.

Overall however, the series just needs some kind of marketing. I hate Seth Green and think he doesn't help Dragon Quest at all. But still, his commercials got DQIX to sell 1.5 million units. Think how much more DQ could sell with Dragon Ball and Chrono Trigger tie ins?

It got one remake and that was for the SFC. The GBC version is akin to what DQVIII3DS is to the original: a port with some extra content.

They have plenty of reasons to remake it. They already have the assets and technical groundwork for it, especially since they're now working on UE4. Literally nothing will be lost in making it. People already eat up DQ in Japan, and 3's one of the most beloved DQ titles out there, if not the most. The reason Atlas exploded in popular is the 8 PS2 games that came out back to back to back to generate both a community to spread word of mouth and stayed relevant in people's interests. So I've been playing DQII all day, why does it feel as though this took a giant dip down in quality as soon as I got the ship? Before then I thought it was amazing but now it just feels directionless for the past couple of hours.
Seeing Alfegard again was pretty cool though, but every other town but the castle being gone is dumb. Still the game is gigantic otherwise so I guess it's okay.
I'm either going to end up having to use a guide or keeping notes on everything it seems.

Still the leap from 1-2 is huge, wish I didn't already know 3 is a prequel of 1 so I could have been surprised like I was when I started 2.

It's the only game the DQ team didn't fully test before releasing it. In interviews, Yuji Horii said he only played up to the part where you get the boat. So after that part, the game wasn't balanced. He also cites DQII as the reason he fully plays every DQ game, even if it has to be delayed.

The voice acting in DQVIII was pretty spotty IMO. Yangus, but Morrie, Angelo, Medea, and Dhoulmagus were great, but Jessica, Angelo, and pretty much every NPC literally just read the words without any inflection. Don't even get me started on Trode's awful voice. I had to skip over everything he said because his voice was so jarring and fake. So i'm in favor of voice acting, but only if they go all out and cast some good actors, rather than the homeless people outside a bar in London.
