you can find an almost naked girl in duke nukem
>>
>>385670754
I don't get it. Was the rainbow coin the discovery?
>>
>>385672120
apparently all 100% runs are void now because someone randomly found a rainbow coin recently in a spot no one had checked

Yeah. It was shorter than the grass you find it in so it's literally in a random patch of grass somewhere.

and people say data-mining has ruined game secrets. I guess they didnt look int he grass, lol
>>
>>385673157
it was literally only found by data mining
>>
>>385673157
If the article I just read on this 5-Banana Coin is correct, it was found through data-mining.
>>
>>385673157

Was it even found through data mining? I thought I recall the person that found it, found it because the sound of the ground was different when he walked over it.
>>
>>385673136
Oddly enough I'm pretty sure in 400 years not a single GameCube will be functional anymore.
>>
>>385672939
Does that mean the other 2 balls are previous King Bob-ombs?
>>
>>385673381
iirc someone was looking at the game through an emulator with either the grass off or with the camera underground looking up for whatever reason, and then he spotted that coin thing
>>
>>385673805
first game/console I owned, came with strat guide, pretty sure this would have been in it...

what's the level/location

I remember I beat world 4 boss before school and later that day after school my younger brother deleted save file and got his ass whiped, only made it through wolds 5-6 tho, couldnt get either the rare coin or the other one
>>
Someone found a sidequest in Final Fantasy IX that nobody had listed in any walkthrough. 13 years after the game was released.
>>
>>385672939

Actually, the guy found it through a program that kept track of event flags in N64 games while he was looking at what would make 100% completion, and there was one in DK64 that nobody seemed to know about. The closest anyone ever got was in a video where one speedrunner ran over it and he went up briefly as he ran over it.

Data mining is really cool and I wish I could do it. Just having a list of event flags to check off for 100%, having a full text dump, character models, images, etc. There's all kinds of cool things to find in games that can't be seen without data mining. And we're just slowly reaching the point where people are actually looking at the PROGRAMMING rather than just the assets to find unknown, unused functions or new applications for existing functions.

ok, didnt even think about doing that kind of stuff as a kid, idk if I even found one

I think I got way farther in megaman 64 and that was my neighbors game, remember kicking some soda/pop can behind a vendor and getting free money or something

Is there some sort of general data-mining community that one can request to data-mine a game, provided there is something interesting about it?

Nintendo 64*
Also surely Nintendo 64 emulation will be good by then, r-right?
>>
>>385674537
That's probably because that sidequest is seemingly unfinished, having absolutely no indicators and ridicolously tedious method to do it. Heck, you can repeat it almost twice.
>>
>>385674537
and what is it?
>>
>>385676153
The nero family.

I could've sworn the playonline guide said something about it, but that thing is long gone, so I can't confirm if true.
>>
>>385676153
In the final dungeon of the game, if you go back to Lindblum to the Tantalus hidout, you can meet one of the Penero brothers each time an event happens in Memoria. So you enter Memoria, go back and meet a brother, then go back to Memoria and beat the first boss, then go back to meet another brother and so on and so forth until you meet all brothers and are rewarded with a Protect Ring inside a new chest in the hideout.

>>
>>385676153
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vYMDCuS_lA

At the very end of the game you have to go revisit an area in a previous town, leave the area and re-enter a bunch of times, then a chest appears without any indication.
>>
>>385672649
No, it's an obnoxious collect-a-thon. Stupid doggo, you can't even video games.
>>
Statistically it's likely some kid playing this game accidentally got that coin and never thought much of it

Probably
It's just really hilarious that every single 100% speedrun of DKC64 was made void when that video was released on the internet.
>>
>>385677852
>>385672191
There are clearly runs still on the leaderboard from long before this was found.

Do you guys just make shit up and hope that it happens to be true?
>>
the goldeneye extra characters werent found until like 10 years after it was released

pretty sure it was just the unused cutscene that was discovered relatively recently and not the shower itself

I am absolutely convinced there is something hidden in The Last Guardian. You don't work on a game for 10 years abd not try to reward long standing players. Especially since SOTC was searched up and down for secrets.
>>
>>385678254
you mean the ones where you put the cheat code in and get like 20 more multiplayer characters? iirc theres winter soliders and a guy in a suit with an orange scarf on his face

I think he may be talking about the All Bond code, that lets you play as other James Bond actors.
Rare implemented it, but couldn't get the rights to other actors likeness. They suppressed the code to make sure it never came public, even threatened to sue any magazine that would publish it.
>>
>>385672649
I'd buy a remake that fixed bugs/performance and gave it a bit of facelift as long as they left the bloom and mechanics alone.

No wonder people didn't find it, shit sounds annoying.
>>
>>385681927
When the find was new, some people kept saying they actually did the sidequest, I don't believe that though. Most likely was just that they entered Lindblum before going to Memoria and then later went back to the Tantalus hideout so the 2nd event happened. I remember being confused why in some of my playthroughs only once Nero brothers appeared and sometimes twice.
