What are your thoughts on this console and what are the best games?
>>
One of Nintendo's worst console. No games.
>>
Still the best 3D adventure game ever.

And the best game is Megaman Legends.

Body Harvest, Blast Corps, Silicon Valley, Jet Force Gemini, Goldeneye, F Zero X were some of my faves as a child. I'm sure I've missed some out. There weren't as many good games as the PS1 but it's still a great console to have.
>>
N64's biggest issue was that they planned all of it's major games for the DD addition , then had to downgrade everything once they realized they couldn't release it on time. They should have taken an extra year to make the disk the main function of the console. We could have gotten Earthbound 64 that way.
>>
>>385638296
>Body Harvest
That title, wew. Just looked up some gameplay and it does not match that title.
>>
I wasn't even born when it came out, my first console was a PS2.
I never actually any NIntendo console. I'm anti-Nintendo ever since I was a little kid.
I'm probably missing some good games but alas. Not gonna change myself at this point in time.

Look at this gameplay. Game looks very colorful. With a title like Body Harvest I'd expect to see a dark horror game.

N64 would set the tone for Nintendo's terrible business acumen for the the next 30 years. Cartridges would scare off devs, their hardware would always be antiquated, their game library would suffer.

I don't need to watch the video, but you're right I suppose. Later stages, Java and China especially were much darker.

Fav Console of all time. Can go back and play any of it's games without issues.

>>385637825
Legacy of Darkness is unironically one of the best N64 games. Level design and combat are all better than what the later 3Dvanias came up with.
>>
>>385639065
Don't forget that the N64 was just as powerful if not better in certain aspects than the PS1. And that the gamecube was second strongest console at the time.
>>
>>385638132
Mega Man 64 was a shit port though.

No wonder they've made underpowered consoles ever since, it's the only way to get games.

Load times were their big advantage, but that ended up not mattering since almost every Playstation game was technically impossible or not worth the effort of an N64 port. Look at how much Capcom had to do to make RE2 work, and it still ended up being a joke of a port.
>>
>>385639749
What? RE2 was way better on the N64. That randomizer alone makes it the best RE of all time.
>>
>>385639749
>it still ended up being a joke of a port.
The thing is uh...it wasn't

You get potato quality FMV but almost everything else is better than PS1 version
>>
>>385637825
Controller was a slab of ass
Didn't have very many games but had a reasonably high-quality library for the size
Many of the games on it aged very poorly and are worse today than games from earlier consoles.
>>
>>385639704
This post was made by a butthurt Sony fanboy pretending that the Gamecube wasn't on par with the PS2 and is full of half-truths and misleading statements.
>Main memory size 24MB
>VRAM size 3MB.
The 3MB referred to there is only the framebuffer and texture cache, while the 4MB listed for the PS2 is the entirety of VRAM. Gamecube used a unified memory architecture so main RAM was also its VRAM, of which it had 40MB (divided into a fast and slow banks of 24 and 16 MB respectively)
Besides that, it's commonly known that the PS2 wasted much of its fillrate and VRAM bandwidth on multi-pass rendering and copying from main memory since the GPU had so few features and the VRAM was so tiny.

If you want to make the case that the PS2 was more powerful than the Gamecube, refer to the actual strengths of the machine (SIMD performance for example) rather than this bullshit.
>>
>>385640016

wrong on all accounts

impressive
>>
>>385640498
>Gamecube used a unified memory architecture so main RAM was also its VRAM, of which it had 40MB (divided into a fast and slow banks of 24 and 16 MB respectively)
PS2's RAM is also unified.

Basically it goes like this:
32 MB main RAM (3.2 GB/s)
4 MB VRAM (48 GB/s)
2 MB ARAM (133 MB/s)

While on Gamecube...
24 MB main RAM (2.6 GB/s)
3 MB VRAM (8.7 GB/s)
16 MB ARAM (0.081 GB/s)

The "slow" bank that you refer to on Gamecube shouldn't even be referred to as RAM because it's so slow, it's more like a 24 MB USB stick that the Gamecube temporarily copy things onto.
>>
>>385640812
*meant 16 MB USB stick

>>
>>385639704
I love Playstation but gamecube games look miles better than ps2's
>>
>>385641327
It depends on what game you're playing. Both machines had different strengths.
>>
>>385637825

Nintendo's finest exclusives machine to date. Pretty terrible for anything else.
>>
>>385641270
Fixed with emulators, just like every other problem with the PS1.
>>
>>385639107
In disagree.
N64 has a lot of FPS & big action-adventure games that are fun and justify the console.

PlayStation had more JRPGs, racers, and fighting games which helped with its varied library.
>>
Decent system.

Most of the the more popular games are available elsewhere now however some of the lesser known games are still good too.

I just can't say much about it. When it was "New" some of my favorite games for it were ones like Star Fox 64. I had some of the more uncommon games for it too at one point.
>>
>>385637825
Honestly, you already know all the best and greatest ones off the top of your head if you grew up with it. N64 really didn't have that many games compared to other consoles.

i found an N64 at a garage sale a long time ago for super cheap, along with some of the essentials like OoT, smash, super mario 64, and a couple others. i've been wanting to build up a physical collection of some of the games, but jeez some of these carts can get expensive on ebay.
>>
If you have a N64 but don't have Ogre Battle you might as well suck my dick.
>>
>samus' only appearance on the n64 was super smash bros

fuc
>>
>>385639035
I don't think they will. They've avoided re-releasing many N64 games on their eshop aside from their 1st party stuff.
I think it would take more effort to make a mini-machine that emulates N64 games - Especially since their system had a unique architecture that made it weird and annoying for many developers.
>>
>>385644231
Good thing we got two fantastic Metroid games with the 6th gen. Let's hope Nintendo can pull it off again.
>>
>>385644370
It wasn't particularly weird, it resembles a modern console more than anything else from that gen. It's just that they hoarded the documentation and refused to give developers any hints about e.g. how to write GPU microcode.

This is my collection, Banjo Tooie included but not on the pic.
>>
>>385650875
Nice collection.
You ought to get some shooters and more 3D platformers.
>>
>>385643510

The PS1 is underrated if anything, people give it a lot of shit just for being Sony and criticize her games, games that would be universally praised if they were on N64
>>
>>385637825
My second console after the SNES. I really liked the N64 although the controls were weird just like GameCube I did get use to them even though the joystick can wear a bit on your hands sometimes.

I will never forget

Hey you Pickachu( interactive game where you used a headset that came with the game)

Starfox 64

Super Mario 64

Mario Tennis

Mario Kart

Super Smash Brothers

Pokemon puzzle league

Pokemon Snap

Pokemon Stadium (which you could use your Pokemon in Red/Blue from the GBA and import into the game)

>>385638450
Anon I grew up with both Sony and Nintendo products and had the best of both worlds you really should give it a chance if you can.
>>
>>385651519
What world are you living in.
PS1 was the normie console of its day. It gets praised by everybody and even people on this board.
Many Sony drones are usually the ones that talk trash and shit on N64.
If anything, 4chan (/v/ specifically) is one of the few places on the internet as a whole that has a positive perception of Nintendo. They're still drowned out by a lot of loud sony drones though.
>>
>>385644567
Oh good good. Bomberman 64 was so awesome especially Multiplayer

https://youtu.be/jq77MTY-ncE
>>
>>385652337
PS1 was not that good for it's time if I remember it just had Crash and Gran Turismo, FF7 pushing it over the hump and that's it.
>>
>>385652337

I'm not talking bad about the N64, you don't have to be a drone to know that Playstation's library is incredible, you need to play both consoles to fully experience that generation.

Also, this is not your safe space
>>
>>385652489
I hated that Bomberman 64 was one of the games that used the "rotate the joystick" nonsense.
I'm glad that its sequel opted for "press 'A' and 'B' simultaneously" instead.
>>
>>385652689
PlayStation is praised by everybody on this board. I would say it's overrated since a lot of its highly acclaimed games are few and fare between. It suffered through the shovelware syndrome that the PS2 went on to suffer (although not as bad as PS2). Most of the games that were revolutionary and highly acclaimed came from N64.
Also, never did I say anything about safe spaces. I was pointing out that /v/ is one of the few places where Nintendo is seen positively - The implication being that there's an anti-Nintendo bias on the internet and games media (even back then). Therefore, I can say that the N64 is not overrated.
