I fucking love space but I can never get past the Kerbin SOI without a fuck-huge rocket that barely takes off and shakes itself to pieces 50% of the time I try to launch, and that's with no payload.
How do I git gud?

I meant going to other planets. I can sometimes land, but I've never made an interplanetary return mission, even with literally just a lightweight probe body and nothing else.

are you keeping track of transfer windows? if you launch at the wrong time in Kerbins orbit you'll need an insane amount of fuel

I know all about the theory, I can just never build rockets with enough Delta V. I've tried building small ones and they've never worked just from lack of fuel, and the bigger ones are too damn heavy.

playing a modded 1.3 install right now. dunno what you talk about. reddit forums and discord are alive. there even is a DLC coming out.

I can remember playing 0.8 and thinking how amazing this game would one day be. Like a more fun and simpler version
of orbiter. Then the devs became autistic the fan base flooded with morons and the game eventually dyed because
neither the devs nor the fans cared about basic functionality and just wanted more parts and stupid kerbal shit.

Hurts so much, at least a lot of people enjoyed it, but I'm still sore ;_;

current project, carrier plane/rocket hybrid capable of taking a 10 ton payload into orbit

ascends to 8km to release the rocket stage and (theoretically, because KSP doesn't actually allow you to do that) returns to base safely

did notice if I let it run at full power without the rocket attached it destroys itself from overheating

have you tried RSS/RO? It's a bit hard to install but it's basically between vanilla ksp and orbiter.

I enjoy using mods to make propellers/prop aircraft.

Wish KSP had more aircraft parts in vanilla, or at least a campaign/career mode that wasn't "meh", something that allowed/focused on a more true-to-life gradual approach starting with primitive unmanned rockets or prop planes, and evolving from there.

realism overhaul. it's awesome but also quite buggy and difficult to install but once you got it going it's so much fun. and at least 10x harder than vanilla ksp. expect to not be able to make it into orbit on your 10th try.
