Is Rimwolrd actually fun, or it's just autistic simulation where you micro-manage every bullshit and wait for hours for something interesting to happen?
>>385629128
There are constantly things happening. Based on which 'storyteller' you choose, it's either a constant ramping up in difficulty or a randommix
>>385629073
TPB?
>>385629128
sure is fun, when you play for the first time you have no idea what to do so is even more btter.
>pirate and play game for hundreds of hours
>eventually get tired of hunting for new updates and looking for mods in the forums
>cave and for the sake of convenience from steam workshop but the game
>pirated version never crashed or bugged out, purchased one does though
I guess I'm just unlucky with my mod choices and it's a coincidence, right?
Ok I'm procrastinating on doin something I really should but don't want to.

Youre always doing something and if you put it on the hardest difficulty on the random 'story teller', you seriously are always on your toes. Theres other 'story tellers' that dictate the rate/pace that shit happens, so if you want a lot of downtime between events there is that, slow ramp, theres that. Just play it, its really fun.
>>385632913
Its a game that you 'learn' the more you play. It was better when the /vg/ general was still its own general and not clumped up with other games, but you can still ask questions there or just google shit youre having trouble understanding

Its better if you have your butcher/stove right next to the freezer so they dont have to walk so far and speeds up cooking by having less time spent traveling. I would suggest putting a door to the right from your storage area so your people dont have to walk all the way around to go outside and plant/harvest. Same for the north side of the freezer.
Dont know if its true for the geyser but I generally leave 1 space around it incase it catches fire. Generators somethings do, same with batteries, I always leave at least 1 space around them. Id suggest building a greenhouse as well so you can farm during the cold months. Need 1 sunlamp and 2 heat generators, the heat generators dont need to always be on but 2 is enough to keep it warm during a cold snap.
Besides that, I would say just spread things out a bit more, everything is really tight together and it looks comfy but you need more entrances/exits so theres less travel time to areas.
>>385633627
What a handsome man
>>385633756
Literally the only one I would ever disable is short circuit since all it does is make wiring more complex and annoying to prevent it. The rest all add to the challenge and are fun.
>>385635587
I don't really like randy random because he'll randomly have chains of events that make the game real easy for a long time, so I feel like even if I did get a hard line of events, someone could just dismiss my accomplishments by saying I got an easier seed.
Cass may be predictable, but at least everyone knows the difficulty you'll get with her.

>Three to five guys are bedridden for a few days while they receive medical care at the hospital, worse case the elderly die off.
Wow, so difficult. It's almost like I'd rather another 1000 point raid over the complete minorness of any of these events.
>>385639295
Why, how can short circuit be prevented?
>>385641138
Short Circuit makes an explosion in a random electrical network on the map, detonating all stored energy in batteries.
You can mitigate this by charging up a dozen batteries and then using switches to disconnect all but one or two from your network (Mitigating the size of the explosion and giving you power reserves to immediately get up and running again by a flick of a switch), or you can wire up multiple networks so only a small part of your base loses power at any time. For instance, I've done it before where my kitchen/freezer had one power network, my hallways and bedrooms had another, and my outer and inner defenses had a third and forth network. Only one would go down at a time.
>>385641138
dont build any batteries
>>385641138
Short circuits only happen to networks with charged batteries attached to them.
>add feature
>add random bad event that only happens if you use said feature and far outweights the benefit of the feature
Bravo Tynan.
stop making me wanting to play this again
>>385641514
>>385641757
This is why my turret system is never connected to my main power or uses batteries. Just have it set up to some wood burning generators where it's easy to turn on.
>>385641757
You can disable the event entirely or just use the fuse mod if it bothers you that much.
>>385642713

>>385645698
I think he just picks completely at random. Cassandra scales aggressively based on wealth though, it's fucking ridiculous by midgame.
>>385632784
How do you get those notifications?
>>385648118
By replying to him.
>>385647902
alright, that's good to know. I've read elsewhere that it was based on wealth but they didn't specify which storyteller. if randy is completely random about raid size then I'll actually decorate my rooms rather then leaving them in barely-bland commieblocks.
I highly recommend the mod "pathing" if you like to make mega bases. Pawns tend to walk over grassy areas, muddy areas and even solar panels if it's the shortest route but this usually results them getting there slower and also bringing dirt all over the place.
Pirated it and so far I'm having fun, is a Z level even planned though?
My only big complaint with RimWorld is that if you like mega base building, like I do, FPS death is inevitable. This also happens to me in DF. Why can't I just build big?
Reminder to use anesthetic and euthanize useless columnists to preserve the master race.
>>385647902
Aaaand that's why I never play with Cassandra
Paste for the waste.
>>385651612
what mod are those fences from?
>>385632698
it's lack of acc on their part and lack of planning on webm author part
>>385652431
It's literally called "fences". The fences are kind of OP since enemies tend to ignore them and you can shoot through them. I don't recall if they offer any cover though, so they aren't as broken as embrasures but fences are much cheaper to build since there's wooden, metal and even barbwire ones. I only use them for aesthetic reasons. Though I heard the modder made it so that now invaders simply destroy the fences and they fall easily, especially steel ones down in a few gun shots.
Mortars can be such fun.
>>385632913
This last couple of alphas added a lot, it can seem overwhelming. The core game is getting your food situation sorted and ensuring enough defenses, active or passive to keep your pawns and stuff from being wrecked.
Just keep scaling up, eventually you snowball. It's easy to get wiped out at first by dumb shit; the late game is easier even with massive threats.
>>385633756
What a wimp. Those manhunting squirrels too much for you anon?
>>385635587
Cass/Phoebe limits your colonists IIRC. Only Randy allows for massive quantities.

What's the point of kidsbesides cumdumps
Average colony lasts like 5 years, no kid can do useful labor in that time
You can pause and plan everything out like prison architect right?
I knew how to do it ages ago, but which file do I look for that determines how fast things expire? I just heard about the travel mechanics in this game and want to get back into it, but I never liked how food would still spoil in basically a day if you didn't have two freezers running constantly.
>>385631065
No you weren't or you already own and it are just shitposting
>>385654640
>answering your own question in the same sentence

There's a shit "planning" tool lets your mark squares for some future thing, it's for basic outlining essentially. But yes.
I wouldn't designate a shitload of building all at once though, this will result in inefficiencies. Best to build in stages.

>>385654110
>>385660772

>>385646098
>>385660731
I wish the planning tool had more options like shapes, circles, triangles etc. shit of that nature and perhaps a right click ability to "replace planned tiles with X" option. The tool is just so shitty and I end up spending more time using it than actually playing the game. In dwarf fortress you can at least just hit CTRL+R to record a macro of a shape, then CTRL+S to stop it and CTRL+P to play it to create. Once you'd done a circle thing, recorded it, you can easily replicate the shape elsewhere. RimWorld has none of that, just a shitty tool that wastes your time.
Speaking of circles I used this in DF. I also used it in RW, but it's not as simple since you can't have diagonal walls.
I wish modders would jump on diagonal walls. In that if there's an "L" shaped wall, it smoothes it into a "\" shape and so on like some of the graphic mods for DF does.
>>385661209
>cheating pleb

>>385651612
What are those prison doors? Can prisoners use them and still be in prison?
>>385654042
>If there is any game that you should support with a purchase, it's Rimworld.
Donating the same amount to Toady would be the better option.
>>385627921
This game is one of those games where cool shit happens very rarely, but that somehow motivates you to play through the slog that is every other second of playing.
I recommend workshop mod: P-Music
https://soundcloud.com/pettersumelius/sets/rimworld
Adds a ton of comfy music to the game.
>>385661407
Yes. It's called prisonextensions. It has not been updated since last year and not for A17. It adds cell doors and cameras (that simply can be used to mark an area for prisoners and do nothing else) and some minor adjustments. I mainly wanted it for the passable doors that you can make out of any material.
>>385661260
>but it's not as simple since you can't have diagonal walls.
incorrect
>>385661932
You missed my point.
>>385662023
The point is diagonal walls are contiguous in Rimworld, but it's not graphically represented
>>385662512
They actually aren't completely contiguous. Pawns can reach through diagonal walls to grab items for crafting if the crafting spot and the item are both sitting on a stool/chair. It's how you can store food in a freezer and cook in a warm room.
>>385663492
Clever. But just breaks my immersion if I did something like that. I can just imagine them putting their infinitely thin fingers through an infinitely thin crevice between wall blocks. I'll wait until a modder does something where it smoothes them and makes this impossible. Till then my diagonal walls are a pipe dream.
>Want to try finding the coldest spot possible to build a base
>Map doesn't have heatmap anymore
>Lack of any soil means I'd have to use mods to add it or rely on the near useless hydro tables
I kinda wish the events were a little more subtle and controlled, I like the idea of long term survival rather than just getting dogpiled by random shit.
Are rec room and dining room separate? Should I make them separate? I tend to fuse the two by habit and I was wondering if having two really good separate rooms being better or having one giant rec / dining room? I only noticed recently that they have two different moodlets for rec room and dining room.
Is there still no point whatsoever to colonists leaving the planet? Do they do anything to help you out in the stars?
>>385664517
Just get the Tilled Soil mod.
I would tone down the fertility though, it's OP at 2.0 but this is easily done and it adds common-sense functionality like putting a dirt layer down on stone for planting.
>>385664956
Not really, I imagine the point of that is a victory condition thats actually hard to achieve in something such as cassandra or randy extreme.
>>385627921
>tfw you've picked up like 6 guys who are useless pacifists and only need 1 of them so in the next raider attack you send the rest out to block the enemies bullets with their bodies

Have they made it so people harden the fuck up yet? Shit like this or organs harvesting is the best way to get rid of cunts with the "waaah waaah I won't do X" traits, but if they've been around for a while it upsets everyone else. You'd think if you were trying to survive a hostile alien environment you'd tolerate a lot more in terms of horrible things being done to people.
>>385666462
or fucking molotovs everywhere jesus christ, where do these assholes get them? You can't even manufacture them,
>>385666632
There are mods that do this. I find they go overboard and make it too easy though. Maybe there's a more balanced one that I haven't seen yet.
What happens if I smooth the tiles in a quarry?
>>385666632
You can't even kill your prisoners without people going around and crying about it for several days, and we're talking about prisoners that were attacking the base with crotch-mounted rape arrays and triple rocket doomsday launchers and shit. frustrating as hell.
>>385666632
When you initially get a prisoner they are deemed "guilty" for a few days. Harvesting organs during that still yields a negative thought in some pawns, but killing them outright doesn't. There is a mod that just came out which allows harvesting organs from dead bodies without penalty, provided said bodies are still fresh. It's a tad bit overpowered as you can harvest so many organs you don't know what to do with them.
>>385666917
it raises the beauty, the only bonus afaik. maybe a speed bonus.
>>385666462
>>385666803
this is the reason Randy is more fun imo, sometimes good sometimes bad is better than consistently awful. At least in my experience once you have a mostly well set up sort of wealthy colony Cassandra will decide this means it's time to batter the ever-living fuck out of you and just not let up.
>>385667287
To be fair I could abstract that in my head. I'd be real easy for the 'harder' members of the group, or just the doctor themselves, to decide to tell the softies that the prisoner "just happened to die in their sleep" meanwhile medical storage fills up with fresh organs.
>>385667586
There is a psychology mod that I think covers that. I haven't tried it though. It makes the game a million times more complex in terms of moods.
