I don't know about other countries but in France only the last two years of high school matter, until then it's easy sailing. I stayed lazy through all high school, never did any homework and got average grades but I still went to university and I'm a few years away from working in physics research.

School was easy time. I even took several AP courses and still found it easy. And I'm not talking about AP history, I'm talking AP Physics, Calculus, Probability and Statistics, and Chemistry. I just didn't work that hard and still got A's.

Then college came and kicked my ass... in hindsight college would've been easy time too if I had been more mature. I just had a shit attitude about it.

And yes I am old. At least I'm still in my 20s, though.
