>I don't understand the appeal
Music speaks straight to your feelings, it has pretty much no other meaning outside of that. You put it on, stop thinking entirely (something the aspie can never do), and let the music dominate your consciousness. It basically creates a giant feeling-hallucination that's intoxicating, energizing, inspiring, etc. At the same time, if you have little feeling in life or just can't perceive subtleties in your own body, music won't be worth anything.

If no song can give you that emotional satisfaction, you might just need to learn how to absorb it (I learned how to be more attentive to it, myself). There's lots of boring shit out there, that's for sure, but it's not hard to find a song with at least a chunk of exciting material. You'll have to ditch the cynical attitude, though.

Sudeki
Sonic games
Tales of symphonia
Black ops 2
Gravity rush 2

Lolipop chainsaw
Naruto ultimate ninja storm 1 and 2.
God of war 3.
Kingdom hearts series.

>>
>>385612952
There's those pesky plurals again.

I don't understand your mindset. If you don't care about old music and want to invest in the new, why are you dismissing all current music as bad while using old music as a point of comparison? Wouldn't it make sense for you to be the one to wade through what you consider sub-par music in search of hidden gems or, better yet, make music yourself?

Also, what are you on about with the whole enjoyment thing? Music is all well and good but you must be delusional if you think there's really any merit behind it other than appealing to people who might want listen to it. You won't see people citing song lyrics the same way they do literature and other works, the medium just isn't tailored for that.

So what's the problem with "engaging in hedonism" and listening to music one enjoys? That's what it's there for.

>but literature is inherently more complex and has higher reach when it comes to actually imparting some kind of meaningful change in people.

Music can mold, inspire and change behaviours in society as much reading a book can do. The great thing about music is that it doesn't even need words to express itself, the body and mind simply reacts naturally to it, its a form of natural, universal comunication, more natural and human than anything written.

That's an interesting point, but you're ignoring the fact that music isn't made or consumed on a strictly global scale, and that, measured by region, average IQ has gone up and not down. This is to be expected, since better nutrition and living standards would naturally translate into those benefits.

Here's the source: https://ourworldindata.org/intelligence/

Following your logic, this must mean that, for every isolated market, there is better music being produced, which begs the question: Why are you dismissing new music?

Listen man, it's nothing personal, it's just that everything you said so far hasn't made any sense to me. I think that the assertion that there isn't, and will never be, good music is very reductive and ignorant, and your IQ argument is also full of holes. I went and looked for an article that made a case for a global decrease in IQ and it has the sentence "I.Q. testes are administered using a series of tests that scientism have determined over the years to be an accurate measure of how much intelligence the human brain actually holds" in it, which by itself should already ruin any credibility it might have.

Rather, I'd like to request that you consider what I've said, that you could find music with merit out there if you use classic records to build a taste and then explore the modern bands from scenes that you like.

If you don't like music, that's fine. I think you're missing out, but you don't have to do anything you don't want to.

Honestly, I thought about getting into music theory so I can appreciate the things I like better, but I decided I enjoyed the simplicity of being able to go "this sounds nice, I like it" as opposed to trying to figure out what's happening with time signatures and the like.

Every time I learned more about the technicalities of things, it just made me enjoy them less, so I'm fine with ignorance for now.

You find something you like, then add it to your collection. Then you find something relatively close to it that you like, then add it to your collection.
Then you repeat the above process until you have a bunch of songs that you like.

I went from Linkin Park, to Breaking Benjamin, to Thousand Foot Krutch, to Starset and eventually ended up fairly far away.
My current addiction is Poets of the Fall and Stan Bush, though Stan comes from watching Transformers as a kid not the above method.

There’s a toxicity and meanness in the air now that I don’t think was there when you one were, for lack of a better term, a poster boy for alienation.
>I never thought about Nine Inch Nails in that context. From my perspective, I was doing what Morrissey and Robert Smith had done, which was expressing a sense of “I don’t fucking fit in anywhere.” It was never about any larger cultural sense of oppression or disenfranchisement. I was thinking if we can take music that embraces and toughens up the sound of electronics, brings the aggression of Throbbing Gristle and hard rock, and also instills an honest lyric — we might have something. I don’t think what we were tapping into was at all similar to the absurdity of whatever Gamergate represents, if that’s what you’re suggesting.

You try and branch out from what little content you like. Try to ignore the genres almost entirely. Don't look for more Classic Rock or more Mongolian Death Metal specifically, look for songs that you like.

Mostly though there's no real tips to help you, aside from maybe recommendation. There's simply no way to tell if you'll like something until you've listened to it. Just take a leap of faith, basically.

It's also alright to hate all of an artist's songs but one, nothing wrong with being picky.
