Well that was... Dare I say... Mindblowing ending!
So, was inside just a corpse or what. Don't really get all the fuss about the sarcophagus. Was it a plant from the start or did homeless Jack just capitalized on the opportunity and planted the surprise inside. Because if it was jacks plan from the begging, then he must be clairvoyant or something, since his plans would fall flat without MC. If it was a spontaneous explosion of creativity on Jacks part, then he rolled a shit ton of luck.
gonna replay it again tonight, to see the other ending
VBtM thread, I guess
>>
Can you actually open? What happened? you get a game over or a bad ending?
>>
Yep, just a corpse. Nothing special really, Jack just got lucky with the stuff that went down. I'm guessing he anticipated that Lacroix would eventually find some way to get it, and that he's the only one with resources to also find the key. That's why he kinda pushes you multiple times to maybe stay out of the big disputes and do what you think is right. If you mindless go along with Lacroix, you also get fucked up. Jack got lucky, but honestly Lacroix had the highest chance of getting the sarcophagus with his resources and pull. That or one of the other leaders of the vampire clans get it, to which I doubt he'd mind them getting blown up either. The people he cares about have no interest in the sarcophagus, so it's a safe bet that whoever does get it will be a fair target.

Jack has been around for a while. Add to it his apparent connections to Mr. Taxi Driver, and I wouldn't even be surprised if he hand some understanding of events that could come to pass.
>>
>>385594965
OP here, since I'm a retard, forgot to mention that I opened it.
you blow up and Homeless Jack laughs at you
>>
>>385594965
You can open it if you either work with Lacroix or beat Lacroix and choose to open it yourself. In both cases, you just get an ending where you get caught up in the explosion. So, essentially yeah, bad ending.
>>
>>385595104
>forgot to mention that I opened it.

You doofus. Tons of people tell you to avoid it. The seer chick at the beach, the werewolf scholar guy, hell, even Jack kinda hints at you doing your own shit instead of getting too involved. Ah well, curiosity gets the best of everyone sometimes.
>>
>>385595231
Well, I wanted to see on OG vampire and maybe get some power while I'm at it, highly doubt that LaCocks would share it, though. I was expecting a boss fight with him, but the game blew my expectations to smithereens
>>
The gist is thus.
Jack is effectively the oldest most powerful vampire in the city, arguably.
He knows about the coffin way in advance, as do most people, but he ambushes the boat before it even hits the dock with the intention of diablerizing a fucking antediluvian.
He kills everyone on board, realizes the coffin is a waste, fills it with the explosives he was going to use to take down the ship to clean up the evidence as a trap, and fucks off to see how everyone's heads roll for this.
>>
>>385594781

Nothing important was in the Ankaran Sarcophagus; Even odds it was an tangentially related relic or a fake. Point was that the most powerful force in the region was going to get it,
and when they did, they were also "going to get it".

The lesson kids, is if you can't make your own ascension, store-bought is not fine.
>>
>>385595326
There is another ending where you fight la croix, open the coffin for yourself, and still get blown to shit.

>>385595326
Hah, you greedy bastard.

My friend and I played through it around the same time like two years ago. I got the fuck everyone ending (pic related), and my friend went with Lacroix because he was roleplaying a good employee. It was hilarious hearing about his reaction to it all, with him just saying explaining how he just wanted to do a good job.
>>
>>385595445
Jack is old but he's still surprisingly high gen.

Strauss, the Sheriff and Andrei probably got him beat in direct power. Strauss is a few 100's older and it's likely the same for Andrei.
>>
>>385594781
Aho da?

Caine was originally inside, but Jack opened it very early in the game allowing him to escape and get a "Taxi Driver" disguise to spy on vampires of the city, he used his immense Presence to always lure you the player as well as other vampires to him whenever they needed a taxi.

So essentially, all the game everyone was fighting for an empty coffin desu.

It makes the player feel like they may have, god forbid, made some kind of mistake when playing the game. Which you can't have the player feel bad or that they messed up these days.

Last game I played that had just an outright, "You fucked up," ending was The Witcher 3. Treat Ciri like a child that can't do anything for herself? Act like you're selling her off for coins? Well then she isn't going to be able to stay alive, or she just doesn't want to come back. Geralt goes on one last mission for revenge, and gets killed. I liked the fact that you could just plain and simple mess up.

First, we don't know if it actually was just a regular non-sobrenatural mummie in the sarcaphagus or if it was an old vampire in torpor.
But it wasn't Jack's plan. Jack may be old and smart, but not so much.
It was Taxi Driver plan, that contacted Jack with the offer to his plan problably before the game even started (I guess there's even an e-mail hinting that), a plan to shift the control of the vampire in LA. And Jack liked it and acted as a pawn of the taxi driver.
In the end, Jack even says that everything happened as "you said it would", to the Taxi Driver. Also, the archeologist only discovered the sarcophagus because SOMEONE gave him a hint - probably the taxi driver, not Jack, specially because if Jack knew of the sarcophagus before the archeologist, he would just go there and take it, instead of waiting it to arrive by the boat.

tl;dr: It was all taxi driver plan, not Jack. And we don't know if it was just a normal mummie or an ancient vampire.

>>385595326
Me too anon. Not just because of the power, but because I wanted a harder boss fight, in the end game all boss fights are really easy (including Ming Xiao if you know how to deal with her). I usually barely even use any healing item. Feels like all side quests I did for exp are for nothing. I wanted a fight where I had to optimize my build, collect all exp points, use all my healing itens and ammunation, be very skilled, and get lucky to win.

But the game was very unfinished, I guess a super-boss fight wasn't in the priorities.

Jack obviously didn't know shit about some age old sarcophagus, but caine did and told Jack.
Jack then tipped the prof who dug it up and put it on boat to LA.
Then they started the rumours that there's ancient inside and when the ship got close to LA he got aboard, killed the crew, took out the mummy, filled it with explosives and made it look like it was opened from inside.

After that they just hanged back and let Camarilla, Sabbat and Kuei-jin tear each other apart to get their hands on it and whoever wins gets blown the fuck off by the bomb.

Like others have said, the taxi driver is behind everything, behind Jack's actions. He simply found a willing puppet in Jack, a person who just wants to spread chaos.

Whether or not the taxi driver is Caine doesn't matter. In the end he is revealed to be a very powerful and very old vampire from his aura. The whole game is about instilling an overwhelming dread on the world that *something* bigger is watching and waiting to awaken and destroy people's (un)lives. The taxi driver represents this powerful force that, for reasons unknown, and potentially trivial, as in, he just wants to have some fun at the expense of the vampire elite, decides push a few events so that society is torn apart.

The sense of fear and unease by every vamp in the city was not misplaced, it was just misguided at the sarcophagus. Someone was really fucking with them. And this conspiracy plot fits with what NPCs like Skelter have been telling you throughout the game, that as a fledgling, you're just a dot at the end of a very long line of older and more powerful vamps that can decide your life just by using their mind. In the lore, there are older vampires whose ability to use auspex and other mental disciplines makes them gods, far beyond what human geniuses can accomplish. They can predict events in the future and thus change it by doing something different.

The whole game's plot is just some ancient playing with the weaker, younger vamps.
>>
Why doesn't the Camarilla acknowledge the antediluvians? Is it because of (((them)))?

Seriously though, doesn't it make logical sense, that as everyone has a sire and as generations get lower vampires get more powerful, that there are ultra-powerful progenitor vampires for each bloodline?
>>
>>385607949
One of the few things that I like in the Kuey-jin ending is that is seems that things weren't exactly as the Taxi Driver predicted.

>>385608209
I don't know, the dialogue with the taxi driver when you tell him about going to ming xiao doesn't reveal any surprise at his part. I think he says something about them bringing change. And that's what the starting point of chaos, or tearing apart a society is, to change the government. Whether that is with replacing it with a chinese nazi group that will cause civil war between them and the kindred, or by blowing up the cam's top dogs, change is change. So I'm not sure I'd say it's beyond the driver's predictions, you're still working within the framework to tear down vampire society management and bring about chaos.

Yes, you can diablerize a diablerist. But you show up as a normal diablerist. It's not worth it unless you diablerize an antediluvian and become a vampire god.

The only clan that can get away with diablerie on weaker vampires is that one clan that always shows up as a diablerist no matter what.
>>
>>385607351
It's all based on 'accepted reality'.
As in a mage can't go throwing fireballs around because the majority of humans on the planet think it's impossible So reality would bitchslap the mage in question.

It wasn't just about killing Lacroix, but to change the status quo of the whole supernatural LA.
He took Lacroix out of the Camarilla, the sabbath, in most endings dealt with the Kuei-jin, and also solved some minor issues (like the Priest and the plague bearers).
But most important, he did all this without any direct intervention of his part.

Still, he problably could have other means to achieve the same goal, but I guess he found this one the least troublesome/the more fun to watch.

Just finished this for the first time a few weeks ago. So what would you consider the best ending /v/? I went independent because I was sick of everyone's bullshit, plus it felt right for a Gangrel to be a lone wolf, but if I had to have picked someone I would have went with Strauss instead.

Also why can Beckett just straight up turn into a wolf and I can't? Does that just come with age and experience or what?
>>
>>385609161
Literally the most boring clan. The only redeeming factor is celerity, but you can use Toreador for that.

Nosferatu is the most fun clan by far, malkavian if you're into the crazy dialogue and unique reactions from NPCs.

So what clan did you pick first/is your favorite?

Toreador for me. Nothing like being a pompous ass that is goddamn fabulous. I enjoyed playing it a way that exemplified the idea of I'm way to sexy to care about all these dumb turf wars. That, and I enjoyed the idea of being able to move through human society with the fewest issues.
>>

Just to fuck with them, probably. Buffing some shit tier fledgling and see all the elder getting stumped by this lowlife shit eater slaying anyone and anything
>>
There was nothing in it but a very old mummy. That's it. Its great because in a world where the supernatural and horrible stuff happen all the time, even Vampires fall for superstitious nonsense and myths. Jack knew this from the start as did Beckett and probably Strauss. The Sarcophagus was important in that it brought all the political problems between the factions to a head as all the power hungry idiots scrambled for it, drawing them out.
>>
>>385609862
Tremere, something about blowing people up by boiling their own blood does it for me.

I'm pretty sure the vital character of the story was the Taxi Driver, not Jack. Jack was just joining in on the fun because he is a fucking anarch and just enjoys watching the world burn.
The Taxi Driver, what or who ever he is, was the master-mind behind all of it. It's implied that he is Cain: either he just got out of the sarcophagus back on the ship - or even before that, or he never was in the sarcophagus at all, possibly actually just sent the sacrophagus as a distraction or just to troll with L.A. Camarilla.
Jack just thought that would be a fun idea and joined in.
>>
>>385619505
kek exactly the same for me
>>
>>385619937
Regardless of whether the cabbie is Cain or not (I believe he is), it is never implied that it was Cain's sarcophagus. Hell, Cain is not even in torpor at all, according to VtM lore.

Also, the sarcophagus not only serves as a weapon to take out whichever powerful Kindred opens it (most probably LaCroix), but it also serves as a filter. Basically, whoever is after the sarcophagus, you can be sure he is a diablerist. It smokes them out.
>>
>>385620514
>it is never implied that it was Cain's sarcophagus.
Except for the fact that - you know, that is what EVERYBODY THINKS and why everybody obsesses over the sacrophagus. That said:
>or he never was in the sarcophagus at all,
covers this interpretation. It's what makes most sense to me, too. The only thing that is left unexplained is what happened to the damn crew of the ship that was transporting the sarcophagus, as far as I remember. It's implied that something terrible leaked from it and slaughtered/spirited-away the crew while they were still on the sea. Which COULD imply that Cain (or what ever is in there) might have been in, and only escaped during the journey.
On the other hand, the dead body next to Jack in the ending that involves you opening the sacrophagus suggests that the body inside was an ordinary mummy.

I think it's intentionally somewhat unclear on this.

Wrong. Everyone obsesses over it because they think it has a Methuselah or an Antediluvian inside it, not Cain himself. That would be WAAAAY impossible. Get your facts right.

>The only thing that is left unexplained is what happened to the damn crew of the ship that was transporting the sarcophagus, as far as I remember. It's implied that something terrible leaked from it and slaughtered/spirited-away the crew while they were still on the sea.
That's a rumor. Jack slayed them. Jack is pretty old you know. He is fucking powerful. He could easily kill a bunch of sailors like it's nothing.
Again, Cain is not in torpor in these Modern Nights, neither in the video game nor the canon lore. Stop it with your headcanon shit.

Also, there is absolutely NO evidence that Jack was behind the slaughter of the crew. All we know that he was working with the cabbie. It's also not exactly Jacks style, to murder several dozen innocent people pretty much for no fucking reason at all.

Also, no Antediluvian, or even Methuselah would be as chill as the cabbie. You'd know that all Kindred of such low generation are basically frenzied demons if you had read any lore. They wouldn't sit around and drive a cab. Most of them don't even remotely look like humans. Only Cain has time for such tedious things, basically because he is a bored and depressed loser.

>It's also not exactly Jacks style, to murder several dozen innocent people pretty much for no fucking reason at all.
That's EXACTLY what he wants the main character to believe, you fool. You stupid Neonate, you fell for the Elders' games. Oh my God, I bet you think the Tremere are true vampires as well.

So are most other Disciplines.
Plus, just because you are a Tremy, it doesn't mean you are a powerful mage. You gotta be of low generation to be an OP Tremere, and Tremere are a pretty young breed, which means there are many, many other Kindred out there that are way, way older. You can't compete with that.
Oh and, literally everyone hates the Tremere. They have no real allies. Even their creations turn against them. During a war they would be alone against the world.

Not so sure that's true of every clan. Certainly holds true for clans with antediluvians that have powerful mental disciplines (ravnos, malkav, ventrue), but others like Troile, Absimiliard etc. wouldn't be able to directly order their clan around, they would just be obscenely powerful and command through sheer force.

Also some clans' antediluvians might really be dead so these clans might be spared from the jyhad and final death.

Strauss is objectively the best ending.

Beckett is a lower generation vampire. His blood is less diluted and he has centuries of experience. Iirc he does tell you that you will be able to transform too with experience, but that will have to be outside the small window of time the game takes place in.
>>
If you have 8 or more Research, you can tell Beckett that sarcophagus is of Assyrian origin, impressing him.

>>385613284

As I said I never played with a gangrel, how do you adquire celerity?
And when you adquire, you get 4 disciplines or what?

>>
>>385628339
>>385630523
That's wrong, celerity is given to gangrel only by BECKETT, I think at the end of the game before the sabbat raid? or after? Don't remember. Either way, it's at the end of the game so it shouldn't be factored in.

It's a plus patch thing.

Vampires have very potent weaknesses.

During the day, they have to sleep or spend precious resources to resist.
The sight of fire (or a bright light) is enough to trigger a vampire into Frenzy, and fire is one of the few things that can actually hurt Vampires significantly, so they have in inborn fear of it.

>>385631708
Well no. If a Vampire is attacked while asleep, they awake in an automatic Frenzy until their attacker is dead. Granted, Caine is a different story entirely because he flat out can't die normally: sevenfold curse and all. He's practically not even a vampire.

Lower generation Kindred existed in big numbers back then, naturally, but they were younger too. Sure they were much more powerful than your average Neonate of today, but some of them were newbies and not able to control their powers yet.
Also, as the other anons said, vampire Hunters have True Faith, which is a very powerful form of magic, there were forests everywhere in medieval Europe, which is a no-no zone for Kindred, and vampires are a tiny minority and are vastly outnumbered by humans.

Nah, he leaves her, because that's how she was cursed by God when she didn't want to be Adam's wife. Her side of the story is that God wanted her subservient to Adam, which doesn't really seem like the case, it's more to do with her wanting to always have her way and Adam and God didn't heed her whenever she was on the rag.

She was cursed by God to always be abandoned by those she loved and if anyone was to love her, their love for her would fade and they would leave her.

She knows God is the one responsible for all the shit in her life, but she can't have a go at him because he's God, so she goes for Caine instead, even though that makes no sense since God would smite her stupid ass anyway, because it doesn't matter if you use proxies or some kind of indirect means of killing Caine, God will know it was you responsible and you'll get yours.

Unless you're an Archmage.

Are you planning to include the insanity clause?

Should be 1 digit for clans, 1 for sect, 1 for builds if you wanna make it simple.

Builds should include humanity variation, since the game accommodates such a roleplaying option. As for the stats of each build, I'd say use your imagination to mish mash them or wait for the next big thread and post early so people give you ideas. There's simply too many combinations.

>>
>>385594781

I'm 99% sure this is what really happened so buckle up.

Jack played off of vampire lore to get people interested in Gehenna and the Sarcophagus.

Since the ventrue clan nature is all about power/holding it/shifts, they would naturally be most interested.

It was just a regular old ass mummy, the lore would keep people from opening it out of fear except for LaCroix who is after the power itself because hes too headstrong overall.

Jacks overall attitude about the Camarilla is that they were not needed and that LaCroix was butting in so he used the whole situation to make him leave / blow him up.

Jack has been around longer than everyone. Experience means everything when it comes to staying alive that long.

Your MC's entire story and the game entirely revolves around Jack.

The "fuss" about it as you describe was probably just a rumor, Jack most likely knew it was all bullshit from the start but played along to drum up the excitement. Knew LaCroix would open it [or another Camarilla.]

Jack has age/wisdom/and experience. The Masquerade is more about politics than anything. What you say and what you dont say is the most important thing in getting far in life.

Character skill should help you specialize and define your character, but it shouldn't totally or even mostly replace player skill. Games where you watch your character slug it out with damage sponge mobs while you manage the cooldowns on various abilities are cancer.
