Is there consensus on whether this game is good or not? Or at least worth playing?

How about the N64 port?
>>
>>385588278
It's great, ps1 version is superior
>>
>>385588278
The PS1 version controls better, and the audio quality is better as well. If you play it, play the PS1 version. It's definitely worth playing though one thing to keep in mind, it wasn't til Legends 2, till they analog control support since Legends 1 was made before the Dual Shock was out. The gameplay is alright, and the cast are very lovable. If you go in with an open mind towards a different take on Mega Man, you should hopefully like it.
>>
>>385588278
The N64 port has better graphics and controls but the PS version has better sound. You should play the PS version so you have more consistency when playing the PS exclusive sequels.
>>
I'm having a good time with the PSN version.

Controls are rough being that it's one of those first forays into 3D games, and that's really the only argument against it. Even then a determined person will get over it. Atmosphere is great, it has fun characters and a bizarre plot that only anime would try. And it's charming as fuck because of all that.

There's advantages and disadvantages for the N64 port, but if you play either one you won't miss out on anything too bad. The shitty thing is N64-only owners missed out on 2 and Misadventures of Tron Bonne.
>>
>>385588278
Just finished it today. It has a lot of charm but the gameplay aged liked milk. The sequel is better in that regard. Also play the Tron Bonne spinoff.

2 is great, but it also has downfalls. 1 has some nice features like the interconnecting ruins. And how the one island is so fleshed out, probably because it's the only location in that game, but even so.

N64 has cleaner graphics and way way way better load times.

N64 version has a lower draw distance and much blurrier textures, along with worse sound.

>>385590504
The only iffy thing about Mega Man Legends are the controls. You use the Dpad to walk and the L and R button to turn Mega Man. Once you get used to them the game plays completely fine, circile strafing and jumping out of the way of enemies never feels all too hard once you get used to them.

The dungeons are bare bones but they're almost all interconnected, which is real awesome. The diversity of side arms mixed with the customizable buster are also a big strength of the game, it makes the gameplay almost feel like a prototype of Ratchet and Clank, with 2 having some weapons that are almost like R&C weapons (the floating turrets that shoot enemies come to mind). There's also some nice sidequests that pop up and give you access to items to make different weapons with, which gives the large towns some nice use.

2 did improve the controls by giving you an actually viable lock on, meaning the core gameplay improved decently.

The series is super underrated, it's silly how people praise Resident Evil despite it having tank controls while shitting on MML for doing almost the same thing. Granted RE is a better series.

The sharp, defined, square textures are the charm of Legends. Why did they fuck it up and blur that shit for N64?

N64 has inbuilt texture-filtering on every game. It was a selling point.

>>
>>385592658
I always thought RE was extremely overrated and aged worse than any other PS1 game, and that's including shovelware like Rascal. Yeah it might have scared that shit out of you when you were 10, but once you've finished puberty the only scary things are the tank controls, camera angles, backtracking and voice acting. The first Silent Hill game easily blows the entire PS1 trilogy out of the water, because for all that game's flaws at least it maintains a tense atmosphere and a somewhat interesting story without resorting to semi-ironic b-movie campiness.

The 2D animated faces on 3D models was a swell trick. They mimic perspective by just drawing their faces from an angle, and even sometimes painted parts of their faces the color of the background, so it could look like their mouth was open. That was really fucking tricksy.

There's two types of people out there, those that can handle janky old 3D games and those that cannot.

Honestly though most people are faggots. So many people complain about the controls of N64 007 yet they will still play CoD or Halo on console. It's all about perspective and what you're used to. Also yeah, Silent Hill was always seen as scarier when me and my friends were kids.

If you don't think aliasing out the ass looks bad, you're blind.
The PS1 looks bad.
But I will say the N64 version looks worse in my opinion due to the shit draw distance.

If the draw distance were the same, I think I'd honest to go prefer the N64 version. blurrier textures sure, but jaggies in the PS1 version are really really really bad, to the point of being distracting.

Hopefully in 10 years someone makes a fan remake of the game based on the PS1 version but with AA.

And the lock-on feature was such a joke it might as well not have been implemented in the first place.

Yea, it was one of the first, but Z targeting was probably a thing in the development of OoT before it came out, and was a vastly better system than what MML had.
Pretty much all modern lock on systems are built upon Z targeting.
>>
>>385593258
It's pretty much just load times that they saved on.

That said, there are NO load times in the N64 version, while in the PS version it can hang for up to 10 seconds every trip between the surface and the underground

Legends does have some godtier atmosphere. It's a shame some people still try to argue the game is bad when it does so much right. Its only sin is a slightly dated control scheme.

I don't think so, there is actually a lot of work involved in making even the most basic 3D games. This is why the indie scene is still oversaturated with 2D and 2.5D games.

The real reason the texture look worse in the N64 version isn't bilinear filitering but that the texture assets themselves are one quarter of the size from the PS1.

It was a typical hack Capcom port.

the N64 version has an easy mode which is awesome because it lets you start off with all the gadgets you would normally get doing the dungeons. This means you can get around everywhere really fast with the skates. So the N64 version is worth a play through even if the PS1 is overall better.

>Tamauchi fucked Nintendo over by wanting to not deal with piracy.

He also said in an interview that it would increase the price of the N64 by $100 at least. I still think going with CDs was the better option, or maybe some sort of hybrid system. The Saturn had that although it never used the carts for anything besides game shark, and the N64 did get the DD but it was introduced way too late and only in Japan. If it had been done much earlier and world wide with more support from Nintendo I think it would have caught on.

it feels like the time you save modelling, you could of added variation. not having 3 different animations, but making it dynamic and give each movement a possibility of being 5 different. example: salute
>speed of salute
>smoothness of salute
>the first half being faster then the second half of salute by 5%, so on, so fourth
itll be the same effect, but if you have 10,000 enemies do the same shit at the SAME time, its ALL going to look a bit different.

same thing with gunshots or impact sounds. just...modulate it or whatever? make it possible that EACH time it plays its slightly higher or lower tone, slower or faster by 5%. just, make it SLIGHTLY different each time, how hard could it be?

Man, that was a huge part of the problem in the first place. Inafune, in the middle of the MN9 debacle, starts another kickstarter, this time for not Megaman Legends, vaguely tied into MN9 as a franchise by having the MC and main girl be called Beck and Call. They also have a simultaneous kickstarter for an OVA prequel to it, which should be coming out in the next few months.

It fails, only reaches like half of its goal, and then Inafune goes "we found an investor who'll give us 500 thousand dollars lol" and the kickstarter technically succeeds, which makes Inafune even less trustworthy because the game was going to be made either way and he was just scamming people out of their money to pad the budget. Granted some Kickstarters do that, but they're honest about it up-front.

Since then we've heard pretty much fuck-all about the game itself, which might be a smart thing to do after MN9. If it doesn't come out people barely remember it because it faded into obscurity, and if it has a troubled development we aren't seeing it.
>>
>>385599159
I don't see how or why anyone would trust Inafune after the MN9 event, that and him starting a new kickstarter before his other game finishes was the fishiest shit out there.

Damn shame too, considering how unlikely it is that we'll get another game like MML.

The comprison that anon posted is misleading.
It appears as if N64 has a lot less stuff on screen, but that's because of how the city gets destroyed after the boss battle with the servbots and Tron,
While it's true N64 version has worse draw distance on towns (but most other times, PS1 has worse), this one is specifically made on purpose to make the N64 look much worse than it actually is. Draw distance in general isn't good on PS1 version either.

PC version > N64 version > PS1 version

There's nothing awfully wrong with any of these versions but I consider N64's version to be better due to having a lot of camera glitches fixed as well as actually looking better.
Those who think the incorrect perspective and warping textures on PS1 look better than the AA on N64 are deluding themselves.

The city wall cannot be destroyed during that fight, that missing makes the city look much worse than the PS1 version. N64 still has a gross filter on all of its textures too.

PS1 version has gross incorrect perspective and shaking textures, plus more camera glitches.
And no, the comparison is misleading, the boss fight do get buildings and houses destroyed, which you can later pay to repair.
I know you're a console warrior, but PC version is the best one anyway (which is an upscaled port of the N64 version).
Capcom could have done a much better work on N64 and PC though, but the little they did, they improved on the original.
Only thing PS version has over the N64 one is the CD audio on voice clips, and a slightly better draw distance in some areas, but not in others, so that's a moot point.

>PS1 version has gross incorrect perspective and shaking textures

I'd take shaking textures over filtered textures, but that's largely personal preference.

>And no, the comparison is misleading, the boss fight do get buildings and houses destroyed, which you can later pay to repair.

The library is probably destroyed, but you can still clearly still see the back wall isn't there at all (which isn't destroyable) and the building in the left is are clearly there but aren't loading because they're just too far away.

>I know you're a console warrior, but PC version is the best one anyway

Doesn't surprise me, and like I said before both look bad, it's pretty much down to personal preference.

>Only thing PS version has over the N64 one is the CD audio on voice clips

Does the N64 version have voice acting? Because if not then it's not even a competition as to which one is better. Also is the music the same between the two different versions?
