The original flipnote was one of the few non-transferrable apps from the DSi to the 3DS for some stupid reason like "the 3DS is getting its own superior version so no need".

It took years but eventually released for a limited time on Club Nintendo and it was a rare game because of Nintendo's stupid ass reasoning.Luckily now anyone who takes 5 minutes to join my.nintendo.com can download it but no one really cares.

If I wanted to buy a DS which one should I get?

Even though the 3DS can play DS games since the screen is a higher resolution you'll either play your games at native res in a small screen of your 3DS or you'll play your games stretched out which looks horrible for some games.

If you don't care about a larger screen then the DSlite is also a good option since it can also play GBA games.

Because the larger screen in its native res. A 3DS or 3DS XL will not play DS games in the correct aspect ratio unless you make it smaller, even the 3DS XL will still have the DS games in native ress be a screen similar in size to the original DS so the best way to play DS games is with the DSi XL.

Of course if he wants more functionality then yeah a 3DS XL or 2DS Xl or whatever he finds for cheap would be a better choice since you can play more shit but that's not what he asked for.

When Flipnote 3D came out for a select few people, it got some threads on /v/ but those were slow and died out pretty fast. I do remember some good stuff coming out of them, too. I wish Flipnote 3D didn't have a jewish and also non-existent online service, it would be such a great place to go on in this day and age.
