The World is slightly bullshit but it's very consistent. If you throw out all the unnecessary talking during the final fight everything DIO does makes sense. The Polnareff thing is a little bullshit but it's definitely possible.

Obviously DIO's stand changed over time, but once they hit Egypt Araki's uncharacteristically consistent with how The World is used.

D4C makes sense, it's just the Who Shot Johnny Joestar arc is told in the most confusing way possible. Valentine baited the other two into two separate alternate realities where each one shot Johnny Joestar. Because of a (later dropped) power of D4C, all these events were visible from the same reality, hence why the kids were confused. From there on out all D4C does is bring stuff in and out of alt universes.
