That's fine. Nothing wrong with that. I actually enjoyed Oblivions setting as well. I just felt like Skyrim had a much better diversity of it.

And yes it is more limited in scope. But that is mostly due to the lack of magic crafting. Which was obviously better in Oblivion, and far better in Morrowind. But the actual use if magic in combat always felt better in Skyrim to me. Same goes with archery, Which could be ridiculously OP in Skyrim.

it's not just crafting. you have less choice to stuff you can do compared to the previous games especially morrowind. skyrim is obviously way smoother though and after mods has potential to be better. there's a cast mod too since I like to play 2h + destruction/resto and changing between stuff feels clunky as fuck

The actual design of the Oblivion glass armor doesn't look too bad, I love the chainmail and layers, the glaring garrish lime green colour + extra bloom is the problem. Morrowind had some wacky armors but the standard iron and steel plates were pretty much copied right out of a real set. In general TES isn't as bad as other fantasy universes but it's no Witcher.

I'm always kind of surprised how many realism guys there are in these threads. You play a game where you're using magic and fighting dragons but the armour better damn well look exactly like something from 1455.

I can only speak for myself, but realistic armors for me is a factor that keeps the setting feel grounded, which in turn makes the fantastical elements easier to swallow. My general rule of thumb is that things that exist in the game that also exist irl should follow irl rules, so that the setting is generally more consistent and immersive

the dragon knights and palace guards are fucking retextures of the imperial guards.

Most sets wrap around awkwardly and hang like aprons with weird blurry textures completely inappropiate for the tech level of the game, they have random exposed spots despite having plenty of bulky material in other parts and horribly superfluous shit like plates with exposed straps tightly hugging a mail coat, they lack neck protection, the helmets are ridiculous and full of weak spots.and aren't shaped to fit a head comfortably, the boots are really damn thick and blocky, and the light armors are just hideous and look mind-boglingly bad, like the leather and fur armors.

Everything's getting goofier again. Skyrim and GoT were major grim realism pieces, Skyrim got progressively more fantastical, and GoT's old news by this point with dragons and shit in it now.

Another good point to look towards is capeshit movies. Nolan's Batman movies, then Snyder's Superman movies were the epitome of grim realism, now look at the Justice League trailer and you see a world of change. Even Marvel dipped into grim shit with Winter Soldier, but look at the new Thor trailer, excessive 80s memery in the wake of Guardians of the Galaxy.

Grim realism is dying out as a movement, and thank fuck, it was boring.
