It lacks DF's autistic detail but still has enough depth to still be interesting.
It's early access though so beware. That said they have been good with updates and keeping people informed.

It's a decently fun game. Completely different focus from dwarf fort, so df comparisons will lead you astray. DF focuses on building a machine using your dorfs, while Rimworld focuses on micromanaging your pawns and dealing with their idiotic AI.

Dorf is much more "balanced" in that your don't have clearly bullshit things happen like a completely random spawn of bugs in your mountain base with no warning beforehand. Rimworld is very game-y and if that's what you're looking for, you'll probably be happy.
