So right now it's only writing to the page file (virtual memory on disk). Put the game in a window or tab and then save and watch to see what files it has open for writing. I'm away from my PC at this moment but there is a way in PH to see all files being written by a target process i.e. pyre.exe has the file %appdatalocal%/game.sav open. If you watch PH for a few minutes and play with the settings you should get it.

The story, art, music, aesthetics and the world are as amazing as Bastion. The rites gameplay is not for everyone, and you are going to spend a lot of time playing through them. I say try out yourself or look up the gameplay on youtube and see if it's your cup of tea. The good thing is that you can lose and story will still move forward, and normal/medium difficulty is enough for someone who wants to play for fun.

You can choose people who are fine living in the Downside. Most of the cast don't want to be there, they want to go back to their lives. And the Commonwealth is a corrupt shithole tossing people to a place they cannot escape for often times completely unjust crimes. Which they will keep doing even though now NOBODY can get out. Also I've only gotten about half of the people stuck in Downside so far but all of their endings are tinged with bittersweetness, the kind of "I literally have no choice, I guess I have to make the most of it" shit that clearly isn't happiness.

Volfred is fine with just Ti'Zo there even if Bertrude isn't, and she's fine up top without him. Ti'Zo is fine down and likes Volfred but is happiest if you yourself remain Downside becuse you understand him best. Chae will miss him if she is topside, though.
Pam and Bertrude hook up topside, as do Pam and Rukey and Rukey and Gilman.

All that defines "good" or "bad" is how many people you liberate. The "percentage chance for the Plan to succeed" thing is basically a Mass Effect 2 situation. You're just influencing how well the revolution goes. The rest is just modular stuff, like what characters go free, how they feel when they get there, etc.

Basically you can lose every single rite but win all the liberation rites and you'll be fine, but your charcters won't be quite so happy in the end.

My prediction still was that there would be a final regular rite where one of your last 3 Exiles goes free and then immediately a jump to the special final rite that decides the Reader's freedom, except you only have 2 exiles left so no Triumvirate, and then Sandra pops out of the Orb and stands with the Nightwings as your third for your freedom.

Well there you go, there's no right best ending. If you send both Ignatius and dog boy through the rights both Xae and Jodariel will be much happier in the Commonwealth, but then you have to sacrifice two spaces. Even Sandalwood would be happier in Commonwealth, as he is extremely suprised and touched when you decide to let him go - but then he'll be without the slug woman. If you let Oralech go, which gives him the good ending, then he's much happier if Ti'Zo is there, as his only friend. Pametha wants to have a closure with her sister, but she also begs you to let her win the right, meaning both of them must be in either Commonwealth or Downside. Pametha won't get a good end unless the reconciles with her sister proper, in my playthrough they had a fight where Tabitha injured her, but the feud ended with that and Pam became a diplomat to mend Harps' and the Union's relationships.
Basically, the best ending is the one where all the characters are happy, even if bittersweet, that's kind of the point of what I'm saying. If you are going to leave the characters in the Downside, it's best to pick those who can survive there, who have something there for them and who have less of reasons and zeal to return to Commonwealth (but if you don't send enough of your own companions the revolution will be bloody, and thus the ending will not be "best") so you have to make a situation where the last two-three exiles are happy to be with each other and don't mind the Downside. But this is also excluding the fact that the leaders of other Triumvirats will have a bad ending, some of them, unless you leave some of your companions in the Downside.
