Best game ever

Basically it goes from wtf is this boring walking to ok I'm interested now to I want to spend my entire life in this game

one big pure fun adventure

It's a game I'm supposed to hate, but love for some reason. As a game, it's a fairly straightforward walking sim with light survival elements, but the characters, the story, and the atmosphere pull you in completely. Waiting for remake to play Changling.

I think Pathologic has much more oppressive survival and horror elements than most games that bill themselves as "survival horror" games. Maintaining hunger and exhaustion can be pretty stressful. Also there have only been few times in a game in which I've nope'd harder than when I stepped into that first quarantined house.

Don't worry, what I posted >>385519246 is just the Haruspex's character description, so it's not a spoiler - without context you won't know what any of that means yet. But I am sorry.

A hint - sometimes characters have a couple of conversations to have with you, and they don't always trigger automatically, so whenever you're talking to one of the important (named) characters speak to them a couple of times until you get their generic reply for the day (which is always the same for whatever day you're on). And remember to check your letters and jounral - if a glyph flashes on the bottom of the screen it means you have an update.

Perhaps on the first day, where there isn't much to do anyway. The town isn't that big and after a few hours you will have an optimized route for touring the city. There are only 15 or so people of real interest.

There's scalpels, which I believe do slightly more damage at the cost of dulling quicker, but no, not really. All melee combat in Pathologic is very fraught - it's difficult, based on timing, and enemies do a lot of damage so they can kill or cripple you very easily.
You'll get a gun sooner or later, especially if you pay attention in dialogue, but then you have other problems to consider.
Minor hint: if you're paying attention to Saburov, you can pick up a revolver on the first day. He'll mention some townsfolk who want to burn a witch in a square south of Isidor's house, and how he sent some guardsmen to disperse them. If you go there, you'll find the guardsmen dead and you can pick up a revolver off the body. If not, Saburov will give you a revolver on the second day.

They weren't 7 bandits anon they were more, i know because i reloaded my revolver and i still had to reload, what i did was Jump into the box that is on theleft of the door and that made the bandits get bugged what else can i do? they appear in front of you and the combat is clunky.

I think on the first few days as bachelor, there's an offering of food near Nina Kain's tomb, not far from the Crucible.

After that, the best way to get food is trading or looting. You'll find different character archetypes have different things up for trade, and are interested in different items.

Savescum like a motherfucker when you face off with bandits, their patterns are random, you can't guess the distance since hitboxes are buggy, and some of their attacks have no windup. I was saving after pretty much every successful strike. If you play Bachelor you can shoot them because you probably won't need the bullets for much else

It is true that gameplay has it's flaws. Then again it's a highly experimental game (for the time) by a indie dev that never done games before. Other than that, some (but not all) game mechanics are purposefully a chore and stressful. There is a reason why they call Pathologic "a stress driven simulator".

And no game would not be better off as a VN, since you need survival mechanics to be fully immerse with Pathologic's universe and ideas

Always happy to wake up and see a big comfy IPL thread up. Hopes for the remake? I'm hoping the combat gets unpleasantly brutal, I know Daniel's been in the shit and Artemiy has most likely dissected multiple people before but I still want to at least hesitate before murdering someone, rather than making my usual 3 am bandit-slaughtering rounds for extra cash and tradeable items.
