Hello, that is my house.
>>
That house is $12M. If I bought an Island, how do you make it an independent nation? I would like to do that. Then get defence agreements from a nearby state.
>>
>>385514987
That's about the least "rich" feature of that image, even poorer properties we own on the Florida coast with their own beach access or even private beach space all have pools. Pools can be fresh water and temperature controlled, the ocean isn't really a full substitute, just different.

>If I bought an Island, how do you make it an independent nation?
By being Superman, or discovering alien super technology. In other words you don't. Being an "independent nation" is a function of power and history, if you've got neither then you can't be an independent nation, particularly since every bit of land in the world at this point is claimed or covered by treaties or whatever.

If you really wanted an independent nation best bet on Earth would be the ocean floor beyond 200 mile EEZ. Assuming you were able to become reasonably self-sufficient, populous, pick your allies and political system and all that reasonably, and still invest a certain amount in defense power that should be a pretty viable path. Of course it'd also cost tens of billions minimum.

USA sold an island to Sir Richard Branson who in turn made the British Virgin Islands, which is an Overstate Territory of the UK. So there has to be a way. Costa Rica doesn't have a military but it's defence concerns, in case of an unlikely invasion, are covered by neighbours and USA.

An island doesn't need to be self-sufficient or populous. Pitcairn Island has like 50 people on it. Kiribati and Tuvalu are also low population but are independent.

>>
>>385516052
Principality of Sealand isn't recognised internationally, but the British Virgin Islands are. So if I bought an Island I could ask the British government or USA government to make it an Overseas territory. Or France. Or Netherlands. They all have some.
>>
>>385516002
Which of these were the good ones? I remember reading about Survival Kids when I was like 10 in Nintendo Power and being very hype for it, but it never came.
>>
>>385515726
>Overstate Territory
Ie., not independent. If push came to shove it'd be cracked down on in a real hurry. A super rich person who ALSO had the right massive political connections and public relations profile MIGHT, maybe, be able to set up an """""independent""""" area, as in maybe having some tax differences or be more like a "state" within the USA, as in some rights to independent policy but not to foreign policy or overall national laws. But no, there is no way except as I described to get actual independence. That's literally what sovereignty means.

>Costa Rica doesn't have a military but it's defence concerns, in case of an unlikely invasion, are covered by neighbours and USA.
Costa Rica has history. It has significant economic and geographic advantages it can leverage, it doesn't have a formal military per se but it does have lots of weapons, population, and security agencies which could be leveraged into guerrilla resistance. It's part of the status quo that exists from the establishment of the modern geopolitical order. Like any other sovereign nation, t's not worth bothering with politically, economically, or militarily so long as it stays semi-stable.

Random fag on an island has zero of that.

But each of the Oversea Territories are their own independent realms with their own rules, they're just kept under the banner of UK for military reasons because, well, if you check where they all are, they're all over the map for a place to base ships and aircraft.
>>
>>385516028
>why would you build an aboveground pool?
Usually islands like that don't have bedrock until a long ways down, which means underground construction is basically the same thing as underwater construction (it's all porous old coral/limestone or whatever, water can easily infiltrate). Even for someone rich heavy construction is hard as fuck to do on an island. It's a lot easier to build above ground or even elevated and then just give it a (retractable) roof if you care. And OP guy may just not care that much, "if it's bad enough weather to not want to swim outside at all then I'll take a rare day inside".

SUCH A LUST FOR REVENGE
>>
>>385516553
>are their own independent realms with their own rules
Sure, just like each state in the USA has its own rules. But only in areas that they're allowed to have, and federal law is still supreme. And they can't make their own agreements with foreign powers. If one of those "independent realms" tried to go as far as a truly independent nation, you'd find out in a real hurry exactly how "independent" they actually were.

Seeing as Britain gave it's entire Empire self-determination, I wouldn't be surprised if they just backed down. Their overseas territories are only like 250,000 population in total and are just for oil and military shit. Again I'm sure there is a way.

It was British clay and they didn't want to be Argentinian, Britain asked them. If you're a cynical sort, the real reason was oil. But at the time of the invasion, there was no known oil there. Now? Now they've found billions of barrels. There is a reason the Falklands are the most defended area per square km on the planet. Most expensive island. That's why Argentina really wants it now, both pride and the fuck huge amount of cash they could legally get.

The UK want it for oil and because it's a military useful area in case of a war in South America they need to get involved in. The USA wants Britain to keep these islands (they made Britain give up their Empire cause, well, long story) because in USA got in a war with, let us say, Chile, they could legally base in Pitcairn Island or Falklands island, both ships and aircraft (Falklands has a military airstrip) and Chile wouldn't be able to do anything without declaring war on UK.

Check the location of all Britain's Overseas Territories. There's one in North Atlantic, Middle Atlantic, South Atlantic. There's several in the Caribbean. There is one in the Pacific. One in the Indian ocean (which is rented by the USA Military). One, technically, in the Arabian Sea. One in the Mediterranean.

I don't really get this series. I just got 1404, the campaing was ok but it felt like just a tutorial. Then the scenarios are fun fun for a while, but they lack variety. Growing a city all the way to happy nobleman is fun once, but not 3 or 4 times considering they all require the same resources.

I love the old Impressions city building games, and qa big part of their success was the variety in the campaign. Even if there were less production chains to manage, you rarely saw all products and had to import and export stuff while managing your budget.

Am I doing something wrong? To me the game seems shallow and short.

Sea is rising though. Many housings near the coast where i live had to be abandoned because the beach advanced toward the houses.
I mean, it's even hard science to grasp. Ice that is on land, drop on sea, water goes up. You can reproduce it on a glass of water.

The 1404 doesn't have much variety in scenarios and unique challenges. 2070 is better in that regard.
