I'd hardly call ArmA a game, it's more of a similator anyway, it didn't lend itself well to the fast paced combat people expect from other fps. As for it being a lazy mod, it really depended more on what servers you played on. Some iterations went full survival immersion with crafting and base building while many others were basically what PUBG is now. PUBG has potential but it's got a ways to go.

Pharmercy has been a thing before the game came out, since beta.

People pair characters they like, it doesn't matter if it's illogical. Like Mchanzo for instance, which have no sort of relation at at all. But since launch Pharah and Mercy have had a few exclusives line to each other (one of which sounds pretty gay). Overwatch's longest running issue is that it's trying to reconcile basically three different philosophies.

Obviously here is where you see a lot of the TF2 elements. The important thing to remember is that in arena shooters and games that claim its pedigree, the most powerful weapons are all close-range hitscan(almost all TF2 characters are equipped with shotguns, the Heavy's minigun, etc.) or projectile based(rocket launcher, grenade launcher)

In TF2, the Soldier's high mobility and getting off the rudimentary skill floor, is dependent on the player's ability to execute the rocket jump. This comes at the expense of some damage, or trading the Soldier's reliable hitscan weapon for Gunboats.

In Overwatch, the equivalent maneuver is pressing the shift key, then waiting for a cooldown.

The other half of it is that you have to remember the most powerful DPS characters in Overwatch have always been hitscan heroes.

Back on Day 0, Pharah was probably at her most powerful, but nobody even remembers that because McCree was ending people's existence just because they were in his line of sight. Then he got nerfed and you know who took over? Soldier 76, even with the wackiness of the Beyblade meta.

Even now with people complaining about Tracer of all characters, Soldier 76 is a reliably consistent presence.

The issue here is that these characters can reliably perform at ideal meta range, and burn through characters with headshots, since hitboxes are so fucking large.

So you have high mobility and range that can trivialize anything besides tank barriers, and the fact that instead of the uber paradigm, pushes are organized around ults that never decay. This is why defense heroes are consistently shit tier and also why team comp stagnates between patches.

I'd like to add to add that in Blizzard's efforts to make the game "all about the heroes" makes picking off-meta needlessly painful and team composition even more important.

In TF2, if you end up with a sniper/spy or two on your team, you're frustrated, but it's not the end of the world. Scouts/Demos/Soldiers can still flank and kill medics, they draw a lot of attention by their very existence and give your team some breathing room. Compare that to Overwatch where you can have a full meta comp, but if someone subs one of your offense heroes for Hanzo, your entire game plan changes because you have less mobility for dive comps, less pressure on barriers, a teammate that needs constant babysitting/shields and isn't self sufficient, etc. And those are actual concerns in Overwatch because heroes are meant to invalidate others by design. A McCree with 80+% accuracy becomes useless against a team with a D.Va/Reinhardt blocking every one of his shots. Even if your Spy in TF2 doesn't add anything to the team, if he shot someone it still did damage. Classes didn't get invalidated and have to change their plan entirely just because ONE other class got picked.

TF2 was also designed for 8 vs 8 with redundancy, and after launch balanced for 12 vs 12.

There is much more of a buffer zone until your team starts having too many spies and snipers.

Honestly, I don't get the issue other players have with Genjis. Outside of when he's using deflect there's really not much threatening about him. He can jump around like a spastic retard all he likes, I'm still shooting him. Keep it in perspective, I think Overwatch characters might actually move slower than the Heavy.

Also the game is more objective based too than the other games. Other games is obviously farm your heroes with items and xp and push while with this you all work together to build your team's level and take objectives like mercenary camps and level based objectives.
