The game was flawed from the beginning. People clung to it in desperation because they assumed the game's early release status meant things would radically change for the better also people were really desperate for a TF2 dethroner at the time,
so that contributed to Tribe's artificial lifespan. But features were either changed for the worse or half arsed.

What plagued the game overall was

>Sentinels were completely overpowered, especially if you had two half decent ones in tandem. On half the maps two good Sentinels together were utterly unstoppable
>The game did a poor job of encouraging teamwork mechanically. Teamwork itself was practically a mythical skill. Everyone played CTF like DM and mostly just fucked off doing their own thing.
>On a similar tangent the vehicle system was incredibly half arsed, and vehicles were just a fairly irrelevant side detail in all but the greatest expert hands where they suddenly became good
>Map rotation god bloated with shitty maps everyone liked, the moment ARX ended you always saw mass evacuation before Temple ruins reared its ugly face
>While there weren't nearly as many P2W weapons as people say there were some there and the important thing was they soured the game's reputation
>The shitty, pathetically limpdicked introduction of private servers and clans that was far too limiting.

And then of course they outright pulled support.

The moment when I saw the biggest player drops was when they changed hitscan weapons such as smgs to actual projectiles, it was simply impossible for many people to hit anything going at such lighting speeds with an weapon that required several shots to kill.

Then came the AoE guns for every single class which meant the whole game turned into a "the floor is laval gameplay" then when even that didn't help they placed a speed cap and nerfed the grenade boosting.
