Dragon Quest has had the Bag since the 6th game. You'll be able to carry everything you pick up.
Individual characters do have an inventory limit, however. And you can't get into the Bag during battle.

Yep. It's a replacement for the Bank that was in earlier games. Instead of having to trudge back to whatever town had the Bank and get your item back, you just pop into the menu and grab it. Or just use it from the bag.

All the DQ games are worth buying at full price. DQVII at $40 is a steal.

+Over 100 hours of game time.
+Class based system.
+The most skills in a DQ game.
+8 party members.
+Fun characters.
+Maribel.
+Best music in the series.
+A game with so much text that it broke some of the translators.
+Powerful story that doesn't hold back any punches.
-Linear story driven narrative removes some of the exploration other games in the series have.
-Can be slow for people who don't like arc driven stories.
-Losing party members.
-No monster taming or parcheesi.

Not grindy at all. Unless you really screw up your classes or only spam attack.

Barring not understanding the story, is menuing reasonable? Are there icons for items? I'm sorta considering importing, but it might be a headache memorizing stuff.

Yes, DQ7 is probably the best one in the series.
The only con is that the start is a bit slow, it doesn't really get off the ground until you hit the second/third island or so.
It's not particularly grindy, I only felt it necessary for the final boss.

He was having his friend translate for him, stopping on every piece of dialogue. Really slowed down the stream. Then his friend left and I guess the other anon took over for a little bit. I didn't watch long, he wouldn't touch most of the quests or dialogue without his translator.
