3D World was too linear, it was just NSMB on an x and y axis.

Odyssey is too open, there's too much space with not a lot spread around it. When you have open worlds, you need stuff to fill in to make them giant fields with little to nothing to do. New Donk City suffers from this especially because the open space is filled with a bunch of buildings you can climb to mask the fact that there isn't a lot to do. Add to the fact that there are literally no enemies besides the ones in the super secret areas you have to reach the most offhanded of places to find, and you get a bad open world.

Take some time to compare this game to Mario 64, including the stretches of silence, and you'll be surprised how similar they are

Every other level shown of the game looks fun to me, but I agree the forest area is looking empty. We did just get a glimpse of the game though.

Honestly I don't like Mario games but I may get this to justify my switch purchase as I'm getting tired of the stuff I have. Splatoon will last me a few weeks longer maybe
