I still think the Elf War is a terrible idea for a game. Nothing in a 2D sidescroller could possibly encapsulate the scope that was described.

I also think the threat of allies being brainwashed can't really be focused on; but MMX didn't really get that across either.

Capcom made a mistake avoiding the 3rd dimension.

They treated the Legends games as a scorned obligation since the only reason they greenlit it was to get Sony to approve a bunch of 2D games release on the PS1.
Some reason either just incompetence or rushing X7 out way too fast made it the laughing stock of the franchise.

So rather than actually modernizing the franchise; It's stuck in self-contained safe-zones tha wasn't helped along by 2008's nostalgia rush. Pretty much assuring the end of the franchise since it only became self-referential.

Well there's like 12 of them when you get passed the "special thanks" entry between X7 and MML1, fewer from MML2. The X7 team has more in common with the Disney's Hide and Sneak team; with 16 overlapping staffers.

And I think like 10 of the same people worked on Pheonix Wright. Stacking like that just doesn't make for great arguments when Capcom has such fluid staffing assignments.

MML wasn't the best way to make 3D though. So much of the world was flat surfaces and even most of the animated items were a series of paper dolls rather than models. I don't know if it couldn't handle more polygons or if there was a conscious effort to avoid them... but either way where this worked for the PS1 they couldn't possibly get away with it on the PS2

It'd be a Turn-based, squad-level game with you controlling a customizable team of maverick hunter mooks that do side missions during the elf-wars with occasional glimpses at the scope X and Zero are dealing with. Sure, your sides important for what it does, but the levels with either character just shows how badly they dwarf your party.
Still, you take out major minor threats. You're not solo-ing a boss like X or Zero, but your squad does what it does.

Fire weapons don't really work under water.
Ice weapons get bigger under water.
The acid weapon neutralizes underwater; but bounces off the surface of water.
The surface tension of water is enough for X to pull a wall-kick kind of jump off.
Catching a boomerang weapon recharges your weapon energy.
Jumping off ride armors to yoshi extra airtime.

Don't see that in the PS1 and beyond games.

I think the problem was that Sony's policy for PS1 classics are that they have to be 1:1 copies of the disc versions.

Sometimes I think its the opposite, Capcom tries to throw every console in a generation at least a few bones. I remember Shinji Mikami was highly impressed with the Gamecube and initially wanted RE4, REmake, and RE0 exclusive for it, but they also made Code Veronica for the Dreamcast too. And I remember how when they made Mega Man 8 for Playstation, they also made MM&B for the SNES as a tradeoff.

Literally the same shit happening with MH:Stories. I really just don't understand Capcom. One moment Nintendo and Capcom are buddy-buddies and the next it's like they won't even look at each other. The fact that they released the Disney Afternoon collection on everything but Nintendo platforms is absolutely bizarre.

Not really. It seems like they go back and forth between Nintendo and Sony with Classic Mega Man sticking closer to Nintendo and X & Legends sticking closer to Sony.

It's definitely incredibly apparent that Nintendo's really tried to abolish that stigma they got during the NES/SNES era with third party devs, and they've definitely reached out. The main problem is that devs think they can get away with shit tier ports only to use them as an excuse when they don't perform that great.

Devs really polished the entire thing, they even ported some shaders and textures to run on the damn thing, but yeah most devs tend to shove some port to "test" waters and fuck off if isn't selling.

At least Konami did the right approach with bomberman, which Nintendo helped to develop.
