SS13 is definitely in my top 10 favourite games but in the end, it's fundamentally flawed because it requires a GM to be played. And I am a board gamer, too, so I don't think that all GM games are flawed by design. But the dude guiding the game in your d&d circle will only do so for one game before people reset with an entirely new universe and characters. In SS13 the GMs are not only allowed to participate, but the characters playing change very, very slowly. So people being people they just get emotionally involved in the clique they spend half a year in, drama and general bullshit is always the result.

the trick is that the bans are based off your CPU-id. Not even standard HWID.

To bypass the bans you need unconnected ipaddresses off the accounts (1), and not the same hardware (2), and cpu-ID (3).

can't spoof cpu-id's, but VM's mask 'em.

1. Clear your BYOND cache and exit BYOND (this is a redundant step, just do it anyway just in case)
2. Delete your BYOND folder in your Documents not the bin.
3. Download this http://www.mediafire.com/file/h17oet0t8g0hfuz/Cid+changer and put it in your BYOND bin.
4. Edit the config file from the mediafire file you downloaded and change the number to something random.
4. Change your IP.
5. If you're playing on /vg/, they use a cookie ban system that stores a cookie on your computer, you need to delete it. It's located in the Users\AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Windows/Cookies directory. It should have a random gibberish name
6. Open up BYOND log in with a new BYOND account
7. Connect to the server.

SS13 was a survival horror game, anything could go wrong at any time. many players had fun just learning the huge myriad of systems in the game, some of them fucked up their jobs and then decided to go stab the captain and take his ID or something. Lorde Doome and I used to try to see how many people we could beat up while being naked and using unconventional weapons i.e power cells and soda cans. We once captured the detective and put him into a retarded SAW gimmick, pic related. I used to capture people, lock them into the chapel mass driver, and then force them to answer trivia questions to be given a chance to live, with certain #s of questions answered giving them 1 tool to help them survive, such as part of an emergency suit, or a cup of coffee to fight off the cold, etc. if you were lucky and answered enough questions before getting 3 wrong, you would be ejected with enough supplies to get back to the station if you were smart enough. i was never a traitor when i did these things, and nobody cared either, because the general atmosphere of the game wasn't "you have to roleplay the job you picked and never hurt anyone unless you are an antag" it was "fuck around in space and have fun"

They recently implemented a "spy" role that is basically a traitor which is dumb as fuck since there is no distinction from a spy to a regular soldier making sabotage seem like straight grief. I think they're going to fix it up since they acknowledge that it isn't perfect.

There's a thing about servers where the wiki is always wrong except when it isn't and that changes depending on the admin so there's never any consistency. I only started playing SS13 a little over a year ago on /tg/ and after playing for so long I can safely say the game was only really fun when I had barely any clue what I was doing and I was still learning stuff and dicking around.

Sadly the admins don't let you dick around anymore, one admin pretty much plays sec every round (which means he can't do admin duties while playing and he's the only admin ever on) and autistically powergames so every antag gets fucking destroyed unless they go 100% full stealth no fun no memes mode.

Most rounds now develop into extended where people erect a shuttle console in their department to recall when you call the shuttle because nothing's fucking happening and then you get lynched and spaced and told you were valid by admins because "haha fuck you"

also they nerfed murderboning because autists cried about being murdered by some guy with a double esword several minutes into the game.

The game's just not fun to play, every meme you could have done has been done and is now bannable.

Surprisingly, Oney's server is fun because it's 100% memes and chaos and the admins do funny meme shit.

How intensive is it to run a ss13 server, obviously you would need to find good mods, but couldn't I just steal the code from another server?
I really enjoyed the game when I started playing but I can't stand the anti-fun mentality and all of the mental illness on the servers.
